I had the privelidge of detailing Scott's red 1992 968. I wound up using a rotary buffer and Meguiar's #83 on a polishing pad to remove most of the haze, and Meguiar's #84 on a cutting pad to remove the scratches and scrapes. A round of Meguiar's #80 on a polishing pad with the D/A buffer, and then she was sealed with Meguiar's #21 synthetic sealant. Here's some eye candy!

Eric, if it is inappropriate for me to post this, please let me know, and I'll edit it.

Nice work Steve, it's very satisfying to clean up the oxidation on red cars.

Car looks great Steve. Where are you located in New Jersey?
At some point I'd really like to learn how to use a rotary buffer, but haven't gotten brave enough yet. The PC will have to do for now.

Joel,
Shoot me an email or give me a call, I'd be happy to detail your car and teach you at the same time!
Ren,
Thanks, and white cars can benefit from a lot of claying and rotary work as well!
The paint on Scott's car is clearcoated, so it was really about removing contaminants and the oxidation out of the clear. My car tends to oxidize very quickly, and the single stage paint is nice to work with, as I can really work into it to remove defects and make it shine!

You can make a white 968 look fantastic, in fact I think it is the best color on the car.

Most everyone knows that black is the worst color for showing dirt, oxidation, and swirls. Here's a before and after of what I have been dealing with on my 944. I've been doing one body panel at a time, but it's coming back very nice!
I've also recently partnered with a local high end detailer who has their own line of products. The paint cleanser, wax, and polishes are very nice. The vinyl/rubber protectant/sealer make's Mother's Back to Black pale in comparison. There's also a caranuba that rivals P21S. I'll have more info soon for those that may be interested. Perhaps a new sponsor button is in my future!
Stephenwz968...nice work...look for a PM soon.
Mark...whenever you want me to tackle one of yours, let me know.
Jay, I'll be in Philly this week...I can drive your car back and you could come get it next week if you're coming to DC! Take the train down and I'll come pick you up!

Thanks, on my website I have examples of swirl removal, overspray removal and scratch removal. Darryl, what process did you use on on your 944? How/Where are the products your local detailer sell made?

I've always used Menzerna products...The roof of the 944 pictured was done with Power Gloss and an orange cutting pad, followed by Intensive Polish and Final Polish II with a white pad. The "after" picture was taken prior to sealant and wax.
The "private label" products were developed by a focus group of high end automobile owners and then sent to a chemical factory for development. I haven't tried all of them yet, but as mentioned, I will provide info. Sorry for beating around the bush, but I need to make sure I don't say anything that I'm not supposed to!

Black is very satisfying to work on:
Before:
After:
I use Meguiar's products, I have tried almost everything out there, and keep coming back to their professional line for great results. I see that you've had impressive results with the Menzerna!
