Considering a 968....does anyone know/have experience with child seats/boosters and fitment in the rear?

Not looking for "long haul" type convenience, but rather "gut it out for 10 mins 'cause I'm dropping you off today, not mom".....

Cabs have no rear seating at all, correct?

Cabs do have rear seat pockets under the cubbies, but if you get a car with the cubbies then no where to sit, correct. I have seen a few cabs with a rear seat configuration, but I would doubt that they are suitable for a car seat.

Cabs with rear seats (all cabs in Europe) come with lap belts (2 points), not ideal for securing children back there, one of the things I would like to have done something about at some stage, otherwise would have been quite ok for smaller children, up to say 10-12 years..

There are bolts back there for the storage cubbies, may a child seat could be bolted in back there.

check your local laws governing children, seat belts, and child seats - these vary state by state - as an example, in california, there is no child seat that will be legal back there, as there are no shoulder harnesses capable of being installed

He's out here in the South, duct taping the seat in would be suitable for state laws.

My 968 cab is unusual -- it has rear seats and was always registered in the US -- and it looks like factory install (color matches the rest of the blue interior). As an alternative, 944S2 cab's all came with rear seats.

what makes you say it was always registered in the US? i seriously doubt it was a US car - DOT did not approve rear seats - however, it could easily have been a canadian car

of course too, it would have been easy to snag a pair of 993 seat bottoms in the right color

I use a Britax "Roundabout" - mine was made in 2001. The profile of the seat is lesser than modern seats made for huge vehicles of the past 10 years or so, which is why it fits the 968 or 944 coupes.

It has a super long strap that I stretch from the back of the Britax and secure at the tie-downs in the trunk, just under the rear spoiler. When I get it in and snug up that strap, it's in there, firmly. No movement of the seat. My eldest daughter, Elli, 3, sits behind the passenger seat. She loves it. I could put her behind me, but my knees would be behind my ears because I would have to move the driver's seat up so far.

I have thought about removing the rear seats altogether and just going with child seats, but pretty soon, they will be in booster seats, then, belted in normally. Heck, the actual seats are so tiny that they are almost child seats themselves!


   

Here it is, out of the car - most recent family trips have been in our other car, a 2001 Toyota Avalon. Takes all of 5 minutes to install or remove. Notice the much sought after denim look, a real attention-getter... [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif[/img]

Carfax says it was registered and titled as a lease at 27miles in Illinois. I think it's Canadian as well -- lots of weird things about it.
