Changing the dash illumination color
#1

I appologize if this topic has been discussed, I looked but gave up after a while. Got my eye on a new radio. Thought about a Porsche/Becker CDR-220 but after looking at the cost and what that can buy you with a new aftermarket I'm leaning towards the aftermarket. The radio I like only has red or blue illumination. Can you change to colro of the dash lights on a 968? Not just the gauge cluster but all the other switches and lights?

Some of the little lights on the dash are very special like the clock light. I doubt those tiny lights come in any colours especially the switch lights but I suppose you could take every thing apart and place a tiny piece of theatrical filter film (won't melt or warp, maybe?) in front of all the bulbs. Time to get out those tweezers and jewellers screwdrivers, it's gonna be a long night.

Correct, a complete change would be time consuming and near impossible as there are numerous locations that would need to be addressed. I think there have been a few that attempted it but I never remember seeing anyone who was successful. LED conversion would make the most sense, but you can't get LED versions of some of the required bulbs so you'd have to reinvent the wheel so to speak.

I had this exact same concern and with an older Alpine unit, I had my choice of four colors - blue, green, red, amber. The amber was pretty close but too orange. I upgraded to a newer Alpine and found they now only offered Blue but I've grown to be OK with it.

I know this might be a bit late but I've just received a re manufactured 2000 CDR 220 from Beckerautosound.  Cost me $600.00 but it looks original and is a huge step up from most of the modern stuff which looks out of place IMHO.  It looks the same as the "Mexico" and has an ipod connection that will also keep the thing charged.

As to the dash lights, what about this?
