CAT delete
#21

After Pete installed my header and custom tuned my chip we ran it through a PA state inspection, just to see if it would pass (I am not required to pass due to exhaust exemption for less than 5,000 miles/year). My car passed the inspection by a respectable margin.

I have never heard of anyone achieving better performance by entirely removing the cat. 968Forums would certainly never recommend that anyone remove a cat from any streetable 968.

I do have the high flow cat and all modifications were made under the strict supervision of Pete.

YMMV,

Jay

Furthermore, the OE cat is NLA, so if you stil decide to delete the cat in spite of the consensus he warning against doing that , at the very least do not ever throw it away , give it away , or even sell it. As Flash said, none of the aftermarket cats are good enough to let the 968 pass smog ( except maybe one , and even then it's if you drive the car for 100 miles at a continuous 5,000 rpm and then pull right into the smog test station before the car cools off ).

The only thing I would add to this post is that if you are in the hunt for more power with out a blower then you have the wrong car

Agree and disagree ; you can add A LITTLE more power without an SC or a Turbo ( via all of the aforementioned chips, air box mod, catback, headers , etc. etc ) without compromising anything else , but it'll hardly translate to anything significant in the overall scheme of things. Remove the spare tire, and the OE catback and that combo will shave off a good 50lbs or more off the weight of the car. When you combine that weight savings with those other relatively inexpensive mods ( though a good catback is not cheap ) you'll definitely get a decent " seat of the pants " difference, and yes, a few true HPs increase, but don't expect to be able to outrun any of the cars you were previously unable to beat, lol.
