Rcommended mechanic in Eastern Long Island
#1

My '92 968 had it's timing belt replaced at 35,000 miles in 2002. It only had 38,427 miles on it when I purchased it in June but I've been told that even though little mileage has been put on since the belt was replaced, the fact that it's 8 years old might mean that it's dried out & in need of replacing again. A friend in Florida who has a 968 said it cost him $2,300 to replace the belt while I've gotten 2 quotes from mechanics on Long Island. One for $440 & one for $1,005. Since there seems to be such a disparity in price I was hoping someone might be able to recommend a mechanic on Long Island who knows 968's and who can be trusted, costwise.

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Thanks,
Karen

8 years is indeed WAY beyond the lifespan of belts - the current recommendation is 3 years or 45k miles whichever comes first

i would contact pete at rs barn - he might have a good recommendation for you - he will also be able to tell you what to expect in cost and such
