no problem - we'll see how it goes - i'm a bit put off about developing new stuff right now though

the reality of how this would work is that the first batch of people need to pony up before even seeing one - i will not be fronting the thousands it will take to make the molds, make one, and then hope that somebody is serious - unfortunately it will likely fall flat at that point - i went through this before on this - thankfully i did not waste my time and money

i made this mistake on the hardtop chassis brace though - people said they wanted it, i spent the money to get it developed - i did exactly what was wanted, and it came out great - then, nothing

the tonneau covers were not all that different - people wanted it - tons of time and money working it out - not so many orders yet - over half of the original group bailed

we get a lot of this with this group - people say they are "interested" but when it comes down to parting with the cash, you get about 1/3 of those actually buying it - i'm not faulting people for having their own lives and issues to deal with - i just wish they wouldn't express interest in something unless they were really ready to buy it right then and there, not "once i get some bills paid off", or "when the economy gets better", or "after i get this or that done"

i'm not in the business of doing this, at least not at that level, and i am not prepared to lay out that much cash for something that may or may not happen when i am done - i love doing the stuff, but not so much that i want to just throw time and money away, especially on something that just isn't a priority for me

when i see 6 checks for whatever the unit price turns out to be at that time, then i'll move forward

i'll see what i can do about getting an artist's rendering done though

i certainly wish it were different, but the bottom line is that this is not a ferrari, with ferrari budget owners - it's really a dressed up 944, and most of the owners are of that mindset when it comes to spending on the car - those that do spend on it, are most often the ones who track the car, and aesthetic or comfort items don't even hit their radar

that leaves a handful of us who like it for the GT car it was designed to be, and want all the cool stuff modern cars have available

if only porsche had the vision.....................

the reason i would be doing it would be for weight - i don't need to drag around the weight of the soft top all the time - it only goes up a half dozen days a year, so it's dead weight the rest of the time - it's a good 50lbs off the top of the car - it also blocks to much of my rear view for my tastes

the hard top would stay at home most of the time

who knows if i will ever do this or not?

it's also why we are not reaching out to 944 guys in the first place with the parts that we have that would cross over - we don't want to have lame penny-pinching conversations, like about rebuilding slave cylinders, or how some yahoo built an intake duct out of dryer tube and duct tape

we've all been there, but that's not what we want discussed here

it's always cheaper to do it right, than to do it wrong

lol - perhaps - i've never been a fan of mickey-mousing stuff - i've always felt that if you can't afford to take care of a car properly, you should not have that car - many of the 944 guys mickey mouse things, and as the 968 becomes less and less expensive to buy, that tendency is creeping in here, as we get more owners who really can't afford the car - sad but true - i hear things like "take a sanding disk to the flywheel" instead of having it surfaced, and i just cringe - i've been broke too, but when i was, i either sold the car i couldn't maintain, or i parked it and drove one i could, or i took the bus - i didn't rubber band and bubble gum things - times are hard - we all know that - this does not mean we have to lower the overall standard of a car that deserves better - i've always said that the 968 is not a good choice as a daily driver, and should never be considered as inexpensive to operate - as they age and rack up miles, this becomes even more evident - as a result of those repairs, it also means less disposable cash for toys - as the prices drop, it also means that such accessories represent a much larger proportional investment, thereby decreasing the interest level

something to remember though: no cheap sports car is good and no good sportscar is cheap

regarding the removable hard top project, i can wait until people with money want the thing - if and when enough people get serious, i'll pursue this - i think that ship may have sailed years ago though

as for buying a hardtop car, no thanks - i don't like hatchbacks or fastbacks (with maybe 2 exceptions) - its' not so much an expense thing as a priority thing for me - i like the lines of the cab - if i were to do anything, it would be cab lines - however, as i never drive in the rain, and the car has only gotten caught in it 7 times now in its entire life, i don't think much about it
