Cabrio Wind Deflector elastic strap fix.
#1

I recently had one of the elastic straps on my wind deflector give out. Had one of the wardrobe women at work sew me up a replacement and figured as long as she was at it, she may as well make a few extras in case anyone needs some. They cost me $10/pair and replacement is really easy. Word to the wise, though. Make sure your phillips bit fits REALLY WELL in the small screws that hold the straps/support arm. They are a weird size and really easy to strip. I went through three bits before I found one that got enough grip to remove them.

PM me if you're interested in getting a pair.

This is a very nice, and appreciated, offer...much reflecting the spirit of Forums and 968 owners. Personally, I don't remember if I still use the elastics (I have a Design1 thing back there - looks like a roll bar, but technically it's not ), so I'm not opting for a set yet.

I just bought a wind deflector on Ebay that comes with the elastics, two legs and attachments that install in my side panels, however I am mystified as to where to attach my straps, help please. I am dying to get the thing set up. Thanks

As far as I can tell, the hook at the end of the elastics hook onto the seat back hinges.

Usually, I poke the large legs into the side plugs

Hook the straps behind the hinges (make sure they are out of the way enough to put the seat backs in place)

tighten the big legs up until it holds together

Put the seat backs into place

put the little legs in the crack left by the the seat backs

Tighten the large legs

I have no idea if I'm 100% correct, but it seems to work...2 years and I'm still not certain.

Worst instructions ever from Porsche....

Best of Luck,

jay

One word of warning: though it appears that you can raise and lower the top with the deflector in place, DON'T!!!! If you install the deflector, you will be able to put the top up without removing the deflector, but if you then lower the top again, with the deflector in place, it will lower, BUT, it will be jammed against the deflector on the sides, which you will not notice initially. This may result in little rips to the top, especially if your top is worn. This happened to me on the way back from the Paso Robles event last April. It cost me almost $2K for the new top. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/ohmy.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />
