Need a DME
#1

Hello guys. Well, after testing the DME from my '92 968 in my father's '93 968, it is clear that my DME is the root of my no spark condition. I am exploring my options right now: 1) Repair it; 2) Replace it with a used one; 3) Buy a remanufactured one.

If anyone has one that they would like to sell, let me know. Also, if anyone knows of a reputable place that can rebuild the unit, please relay that information.

So far, I have found out the following: 1) Sunset Porsche's price for a remanufactured DME is $1120; it would take them 4-6 weeks to get it to me from Germany. 2) A service I found online will repair my ECU for $520. Alternatively, they sell remanufactured ECUs for $620 (core required).

Thanks in advance for your responses. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

i ran across someplace that had them for pretty cheap, though i didn't investigate too closely (seems like it was under 300) - i'll go back through the 100 or so bookmarked sites and see if i can find it

which dme do you have? there are 2 different ones - the part number should be on the outside - there are also 2 different chips for the early DME

what exactly happened? was this a sudden failure? were there any other circumstances surrounding it (like jump starting or some other electrical current spike)?

I'd definitely give Parts Heaven a call. They've always been able to hook me up with used parts at reasonable prices.
