Folks,
Sorry if this is an old question, but there are a lot of different posts here about the tops and not sure if any will specifically address my issue. The top goes up and down as it should and latches easily, but I think it is too easy as the front when latched shimmies when you hit a bump so it clunks/knocks/etc. when the top is closed. I feel the top is not forward enough so I adjusted at the fork joint per the top adjustment instructions (I found them here on another post). While the top goes further forward, I noticed that the front of the top also rotates so that the pins start to point forward instead of staying up and down, making them unable to go into the alignment holes where the microswitches are.
I noticed that there is a rubber cam on the top frame above the windows and was wondering it this is where the adjustment needs to be made to keep the header on the top vertically aligned with the top of the windsheild mount. ANybody know?
Also, the fork joint (which is back behind the seats and is the main connection to the body where the top transmission are) is currently set almost as "low" as it can go - on another 968 I had there was a inch or so of threads between the fork joint and the Jamb nut, and on this new-to-me 968 this nut is almost bottomed out against the fork. I think the manual says there should be roughly 24MM between the fork and the nut and I am close to 0 right now. I adjusted up to roughly 24 MM and this is where the pins rotated forward making it impossible for them to line up into the alignment holes. It is like the top canvas is pulling on the front header of the top and twisting it backwards.
I know there are shims, and adjustments for the back of the top as well but I don't want to start messing with things and not be able to get back to shutting easily without problems. I am 95% sure this is the orignal top and the seals with the windows, etc. are the best I have seen for the 3 cabs I have owned.
Anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Ken
