Bubbles on cabriolet plastic rear quarters
#1

I have noticed a small bubble on the right rear quarter of my cabriolet. It looks like a rain drop. Just recently several move have appeared.

They look like rust under the paint, but the parts are plastic. They are starting to appear on the horizontal panel that has the '968' emblems attached to it and the two corner pieces that meet it.

My body shop guy says that they are under the paint and that something is getting through the plastic from the trunk side of the piece.

Has anyone seen or heard of this issue?

Thanks,

Brian

looks like body and paint work was done there, and the prep has failed.  this can happen over time if it isn't done right, especially if the car sits in the sun every day.

It's pox, the anti-vaxers are causing outbreaks among German cars.

Yup. Work was done 2-3 years ago.

Now in condo, ass in sun until noon.

Getting estimate on repair.

Going to pull the 968 off to clean up rear.

Thanks for the input.

The paint on the thermoplastic panels has a flex agent added to it so that it doesn't crack if the panel is deformed. You might try punturing the bubble with a very fine needle and then pressing it flat with your finger.

a proper repair will require removal of all paint on that piece.  they may be able to stop at the original factory prep, but if they stop before that, the problem will likely come back.

avoid letting it sit in the sun the same direction every day.  alternate position.  flip the cap around.
