Placement for 968 Turbo RS NACA Ducts and Intercooler Outlet
#1

Greetings,

I wanted to know if anyone had a placement guide for the placement of the 968 Turbo RS NACA Ducts and Intercooler Outlet. I am getting ready to install them and wanted to make sure that the placement is correct and accurate. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I can't help you, but I can't help wondering if there is an intercooler and turbo below the hood to complement your new look?

Pete @ RS Barn knows the exact placement.

if they aren't going to be used, just make sure you cap them off or you will have more cooling system problems - i know it sounds backwards, but more air introduced into the engine bay is actually a bad thing for the radiator, due to the decrease in negative pressure

Flash,

I did not realize that this would be the case. I should have known better. I assumed better air flow would be an advantage. I really liked the look of the ducts. Ironically, I have three sets of the NACA ducts - Deutsch Nine, Peter Fitzgerald and Speed-6. So, the car might look more cool but in actuality suck. Great!

yup - nowadays car manufacturers go way out of their way to close off the engine bay to extraneous air - this is for 2 reasons:

1. to improve aerodynamics, and reduce lift - open ducts would increase lift, though you probably would not see the effect below about 100mph

2. to improve cooling by forcing all air that enters the engine bay to first go through the radiator

the second one is obviously the issue - allowing air to enter the engine bay from elsewhere reduces the negative pressure zone behind the radiator - this thereby lessens the force on the radiator, which in turn makes its heat exchanger efficiency drop - it doesn't take a lot to make that happen either

this is also why the belly pans are so important on this car - the effect can actually be seen on the temp gauge

so, if you want to run the ducts, then figure out some way to either close them off, or direct that air to some place it can do some good and then get out (brakes maybe? not sure how you would get there though)

good luck
