Cayman S is going back to dealer on Friday. 75,000 km with new engine at 45,000 km but Porsche would NOT tell me if the new engine had addressed the underlying reason for my engine failure. Really wouldn't even acknowledge that there was any systemic issue, just that mine had broken. Lots of owners over on Planet 9 also have had the same issue. Warranty ends at 80,000 and I just can't get my head into keeping the car for the 11 months left on the lease and possibly having a major issue out of warranty. So, as Phil and Don said, its "Bye, bye, Cayman - bye bye happiness, hello loneliness, I think I'm a -gonna cry".
Wait, I have the two 968s with a SC to come. Cry? Why?

The white car now has 389,000 km (almost 240,000 mi). It will now be pressed back into service as soon as this steering shaft bull-poop gets resolved. Pretty sure a million km is possible, AND I WILL TRY! Only thing that might cause me to drive less would be too much fun in the blue car once the D1R SC is installed.

Didn't know that was a common problem in the Cayman.
I love my 968 for what it is & don't hate it for what it isn't!

The intermediate shaft bearing is an issue on all the M96 engines as well as the RMS. The RMS has gotten better, but the IMS will likely continue to be an issue on some of the engines.
The Metzger motor cars have an IMS issues as well, but it's different. The Woodruff Key holding one of the two gear rounds and fails on some cars. It usually gets really noisy first. The turbo engine is just kind of noisy anyway. It bothers some folks. Me not so much.

I have a friend, very tall, blue eyes, blond, intimidating, break your hand on a handshake, looks like Bill Clinton. I asked him what he thought of it. He said, with a lot of gesturing "just f***ing marvelous!" I agree.
Great car, sticks to the road to the point that I was NEVER able to shake it loose (but I am a coward!), really is light years ahead of my old 968 (with deference to those who have modified suspensions, etc, my car is replacement stocK). Just nervous.

I am getting rid of mine ONLY because of the prior engine issue, almost out of warranty, and Porsche would not comment on if the replacement engine had that problem remedied. Only reason. Lots of fun, enough power for me, nice engine sound (I have the PSE), good Bose stereo, full leather (seats, doors, dash). New one with 330 HP and PDK would be phenomenal.

I drove the Boxster in a recent autocross, and was VERY impressed with the balance and power. The Boxster coupe would be just the ticket for track days... The PASM was really excellent and predictable. Can you say flat? No body roll.
I'd love to get my hands on a Boxster Spyder. Who really needs the top anyway, right?

Cayman went back today. Gone. not a single comment from the Porsche shop. Nothing. Not even a "See ya later buddy".

Given the number of Porsches that you have owned, I would have thought someone might have been willing to work with you on the issue with the Cayman. Has Porsche become so arrogant as to not care what its customers are concerned about or is this just a local thing? I don't think your question to them was unreasonable at all.
