Broken main bow
#61

Finally got the driver side wrenched loose enough to manually move the top. Whew, that was a bear on the driver side, and pretty slow to turn on the passenger side. But I love it now, much better in manual mode.

Perhaps if it's driven a lot without the boot cover in place, dirt and moisture could get in there and freeze those bolts up?

Hmm, could be a PO deficit. I always use the cover, and it didn't look unusually dirty or in any way corroded in there, but it wasn't like breaking the bolts loose and then they turned more freely. More like there was loctite on them. Oh well, the top freely moves up and down now with little effort so I'm sure the bolts are sufficiently unscrewed, and I know they won't fall out either.

with the high prices of the bows both used and new, has anyone tried to have one CNC machined or 3D Printed?

When mine broke, I had it repaired by a master welder. Since then I've only used it in manual mode. No problems yet.

Hi guys,

Bought a 944 S2 cab with broken bows, yes both of them... And a PO have been driving like this for quite a while so the soft top has been damaged with tears outside of both bows.

Luckily the PO had a new soft top and a used structure to go with the car!

Have driven all year now in “coupe mode” and have now started to look into doing the swap.

What is the easiest procedure if I change the whole mechanism/structure and soft top?

I guess a 944 and 968 have the same soft top/structure!?

I can’t find a way to post pictures yet, is it a feature that opens up with more posts?

Thanks a lot!

Yes, it takes about 5 posts before you can post pictures, that information is in the pinned post.

Ok thanks Jay!

Will go out to the garage and start wrenching on Sunday and snap a couple pics.

Anyone have the procedure for going manual opening?
