Bob Made it...
#1

Bob made his 19 Hour drive arriving at my place around 6PM last night. He did have some casualties which include a Broken Drivers side mirror which took a rock . He also had a handful of paint chips in his new paint ... So you can imagine Bob was pretty annoyed but got over it with a fantastic dinner & Drinks when we went down town. He took off this morning around 7am to head over to the meeting point 1.5 hours away. I decided to join the group this afternoon. More pictures will be posted soon...

question that comes to mind - why didn't he put the car cover on for the transport ?! ( not sure that would have saved the mirror, but at least the chips.. )

sorry to hear it - that sucks.

sure dinner and drinks helps a bit, but then you still have to fix the darn thing...

No easy way to cover it, and travel at speed without scrubbing the paint.

How about facing the car forward with the bra and mirror covers on?

That was his plan but the car would not go on the trailor that way he had to back it on. Clearence issues.

We had a VW Rabbit race car (no jokes please, we have the trophies) that had to be towed backwards due to weight distribution issues. Every time we pulled into the track, the locals freaked. Apparently, its bad NASCAR karma to do this...well known racer from the 50's died in a car that was towed to the event "facing the wrong way". I guess Bob might agree.

I hope the trip back to the West Coast was less eventful than the one out here. We felt terrible that your car suffered any damage on its trip. Those 968-seeking rocks are a nemesis of ours as well.

I can't tell you how much it meant to us to have you join us for the event. Driving almost 20 hours nonstop each way, then participating in all of our activities was impressive. We were exhausted by the end and didn't have the drive on either end of the event that you did.

Again, great meeting you and Ayn, and hope to see you again soon.

Your experience makes me think I'd better get an enclosed trailer if I ever decide to tow either of ours.

eric had some black saran wrap and we wrapped the back end of the car for the return trip - i had to stop a few times and add some gaffer's tape to hold it in place, and i haven't yanked it down yet, but will this morning - i'll let you know how it went, but i expect it is fine

we had a blast - thanks for everything - was dead tired last night, but am much better now

looking at trailer options myself before the next run
