Blue Ridge Parkway
#1

My baby - and my car - on the Parkway near Mt. Pisgah south of Asheville. You live for days like this as a Porsche owner.

Usually this time of year the parkway is a motor home parking lot, a 250 mile long traffic jam of vacationers going 25 mph and slowing down for the corners. But looks like $4.00/gal gas has cleared up that problem! At 10 am on a beautiful Saturday morning we shared the road with a few cars (including a group of MGs and Triumphs) and a lot of Harleys.

Nothing like the open road. I like to leave the girl home, She has to Pee every 25 miles

The only thing wrong with the BRP is the 45mph speed limit. Very very hard to keep the car at or under that number up there on the ridge.

I have a picture from that very spot that was taken a couple of years ago. The wife and I went to Asheville for our anniversary to do the Biltmore thing. We left Asheville around 12:00 on July 3rd and it was 92 degrees and climbing. When we got up to the top of the Blue Ridge it was 58 degrees; Unbelievable! It makes a great ride with the top down, and there are a few swimmin' holes worth checking out if they're not too crowded.

Actually, just cruising when there is little traffic was quite fun. Stopped a lot to check out the views and enjoy the beautiful weather.

Plus - I had gotten my speed/mountain curves fix the afternoon before, climbing NC 226 from I40 at Marion to Little Switzerland... a secret road favored by those in the know traveling to and from the Tail of the Dragon. I have been meaning to send it to Winding Road. My wife handled the adventure well, only yelling at me once or twice.
