Blink test, isn't
#1

blinking, that is.  When I turn the key to the accessory position, the check engine light does illuminate, but when I hold the throttle down, no matter how long I keep it pressed to the floor, the check engine light never starts flashing.  Once upon a time, it used to work.  Anybody ever run into this?  Thanks.

I think it has to be in position 2 to work.

+1 for above post, also make sure the throttle is opening fully at the throttle body when the pedal is pressed

Thanks;  I didn't know the key had to be at position 2.  I'll try it again tonight.

Blink test? I'll bite, what's a "blink test"?

That allow you to read out the error codes without an odbI reader. Activating it causes any stored error codes to be displayed by blinking a dashboard light, thus the "blink" test.

Use the search function - there is NO shortage of information on this test for US cars.

No go - no matter where I position the key once the check engine light illuminates, it doesn't blink when I fully depress the throttle no matter how long I hold the throttle to the floor.  And I'm reasonably sure the throttle is opening fully when I press the pedal to the floor, because I've taken all the slack out of the throttle cable, such that it starts moving the instant I start pressing the pedal.  Again, the blink test has worked in the past, but for some reason it no longer is.

I longer have a car but I seem to recall that you depress the throttle for about 5 seconds and then, as you ease off, the blinking starts.

it is triggered by the TPS, (throttle position switch) if its not working I would get your multi meter out and check the TPS

I don't know if this is related, but I did tap into my TPS to send the throttle position voltage signal to my data acquisition system (it's a track car).  But the throttle position signal is registering perfectly on the DA system, so everything seems to be working.

I thought the blinking was supposed to start while you have your foot on the floor after about five seconds.  But it isn't working either with the throttle on the floor, or as I ease off.

My recollection is that the blinking starts after you lift your foot off the pedal, in about five seconds . I could be wrong though , going to the car right now to see .. Stay tuned .

I was wrong , lol. So with the key on at the second position, without turning on the engine, press the gas pedal for 3-5 seconds , during which the blink test will start. Then you can lift the foot off the pedal and the blink test will continue by itself .

Yeah, that was my recollection as well, and that's the way my car used to work.  Definitely not working now, though.  Oh, well, I guess I'll be blinkless.  Wait, I forgot to check my blinker fluid level - that has to be it.
