A brief update... I'm still not really driving my 968, though I should be. I did pass the Bar in July (found out in November), but I'm still waiting on some Bar paperwork and don't yet have my license, so, I'm still "real job pending," and she's getting only the attention I can afford to give her right now. I think I've put 1,000 miles on in the past year, if that many.

(On the other hand, a $10 bottle of DeoxIT resurrected my knock sensors when applied to the connectors, extinguishing my Check Engine light and allowing her to pass smog with flying colors.)

I still have a box full of belts, rollers, etc., from last year around this time, when we were supposed to be doing the belts on several cars. I seem to recall others piping up that they had the tools/expertise to do such a job as well, and some of 'em were L.A. local...

I desperately need to change out the timing and balance belts, water pump, and anything else that makes sense in there. I'll buy the beer, I can come to you...

And then, next up: Engine mounts, power steering leak, right front sway bar bushing, brake pads (light came on yesterday, last time I touched the brakes was back in '00, about 30,000 miles ago), and figuring out why the F*&king "engine oil" light is still illuminated; pressure's fine, level's fine, sensor was replaced 2 years ago or so... (Maybe another corroded contact? Where is this sensor located? I had an indie wrench do that job last time.)

Slowly but surely she'll be fixed and back on the street as she was meant to be. Meanwhile, I'm using the bicycle and the Jeep for most things (the motorcycle was recently totalled after it spontaneously combusted while parked at LAX over Thanksgiving -- my luck with vehicles these days is decidedly mixed)...

How y'all doing?

Chris,

Bring it to Arkansas and we can do it in my garage <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Do you have original belts? How many miles are on the belts?

I honestly have no idea. The belts are the same as were on the car when I bought it in 2000, about 30,000 miles ago. The dealer I got it from indicated a "full service" had been done on it just before I got it, but who knows...

It's critical, if for no other reason than my peace of mind...

I could fly you out cheaper than I could drive it there! (We should talk shop in any case...)

Chris, congrats on passing the bar. If you have any interest in having the belts and whatever else done locally (Huntington Beach) I have some options that might interest you. Send me a PM if you're interested.
