axle lengths
#1

I tore out my tranny yesterday because of pinion noise but when i unbolted the passenger side CV i couldn,t pull it away from the tranny.
The driver side dropped out easily, I know the axles are different lengths but this just doesn,t seem right although its been in there since i,ve had the car.
I couldn't find any info on lengths does anyone have specs? I'm pulling the gears off the pinion right now in between twelve ounce curls and geeking on the computer.

The thing that amazes me about these trannys is how important the pinion pre load is, this was rebuilt before i baught it by a local shop
and the pinion was way over preloaded and led to failure at 25.000 miles.

This time I,ll be pre loading so at least I can blame myself!!!

The driver side is ~20.5 inches and the passenger side ~21.5 inches. If you are sure all the cv bolts are completely out, push the tranny to side slightly and yank on it.

I had no problems getting it out after dropping the tranny down a little but when the tranny was bolted up I couldn't compress
the cv's enough to clear the flange even with the bolts removed.

Thanks for the specs.
