Just read an article on which cars get the most speeding tickets and Porsche is not on the top 10 list. Merceds Benz leads the list. I would have thought Porsche would make the list. Does this mean we all have radar detectors or are just whimps when driving? One other note I also see that Escort has developed a combination radar and GPS unit. It looks pretty cool and certainly would solve the dangle of cords around the dash. It will show where the radar unit is on your map. However at $650 it's a little pricey if you already have one of each (moi). But if you buy a good radar $300-$400 and a GPS $200 it would be at the right price. The only trouble is that leaving a GPS or radar on you dash invites theft.

Look at the averages. Compared to the number of Vettes, 370 Z's, camaros and alike. Porsche just doesn't have the numbers out there to compete. You can also factor in that many 9s are weekend cars reducing the chances even greater. But I'll also say that quite a few P owners are wimps. So many 911s around here are going under the speed limit <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/mad.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />
its just a matter of percentages. How many Porsche's are on the road vs how many MB's? Naturally more Mb's would get tickets as they out number the amount of Porsche on the road by a huge huge margin. With that said, Most MB's are DD's. Most Porsches are second or third cars.
If you look at percentages of speeding tickets per vehicles registered...i have a feeling it would be much higher for Porsche vs MB.
It goes with my theory that my car is invisible. The only time I am noticed is after I am hit ! <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/blink.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> Actually I have been pulled over once 40 miles over the speed limit but I was able to get out of the ticket thanks to my Uncle's pba card <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/wink.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> It is true there are a lot of wimpy 911 drivers out there.....

Some of this probably has to do with the fact that while Porsche drivers may be fast drivers, they are also prudent drivers. Using myself as an example. I don't speed in traffic on the freeway, I don't speed in residential areas or in town. The only time that I open the car up is on a back country road where there is very little traffic or on a clear section of freeway.
I see a lot of MBZ drivers working the traffic on crowded freeways like a slalom course, which will get you a ticket in the Bay Area.

We probably do not want to admit it, but most Porsche drivers are likely to be what could be called Mature, be this in terms of years, wisdom or even attitude (excepting the 1980's yuppies that had Porsches).
The insurance companies tend to like that the majority of Porsche owners are most likely over 40.
Having a fast car also means that you do not have to exploit it all of the time.
It's funny that MB's are mentioned. When I was in California earlier this year, I noticed that an unusually high percentage of cars that overtook me on the highways were black MB's - and they were generally doing 15-20+mph over the speed limit. I also noticed that while every 2nd car around Beverley Hills seems to be a Porsche, once you get out of the city there aren't that many Porsches on the roads, but quite a lot of MBs.
First, I want to apologize for posting this to the wrong category. I'm just not up to speed on the new formats. Some very good arguments as to why Porsche is not among the most ticketed drivers. I think the premise that the number of Porsches are much lower than MBs explains the difference. I also want to add to the statistics on not getting a speeding ticket as I was driving home (now in the dark) my detector went off and sure enough there was a radar trap. Hit the brakes (softly) and slowed down. Wasn't really going that fast but definetly over the limit on the Washington Toll Road. This a favorite place for the cops so I am cautious when driving and always aware of my detector.
A few years ago, OK many years ago, Excellence (magazine) did an article on this subject. They even interviewed highway patrols. I recall that the cops believe that Porsche owners are much more involved with their cars, they are more educated, and typically much more mature as car owners, more educated on car driving and car handling. As such they don't present as large a risk, so Porsche drivers typically don't speed when it is risky, want to protect their cars, less likely to have contraband in the car or their bodies, they are knowledgeable about their cars and driving. So Porsches in a way are not as attractive a target to pull over as many other cars.

yeah - they definitely profile cars - if the car looks good, they tend to ignore it more - if the car looks beat, they're more inclined to find out what's going on inside
unfortunately with most of the 944s going straight downhill, our cars resembling those, neither of them costing anything, and consequently owners getting younger and younger, we are very likely to get lumped in with them - guilt by association
At least you did not have highway patrol officers playing "snoker" when booking cars. This occurred in Victoria many years back, where they would have to book a red car, then a specific coloured car (from memory the coloured balls on a snooker table are - black, pink, brown, green and yellow). Depending on what colour they got after the red, determined the points they got.
This was a competition running with these guys every day until caught. Don't ask me how they got caught.
It is quickly approaching a year that I have had my 968 and speeding tickets were something that I was worried about. I have now talked my way out of

One was based on where I was speeding. I quickly admitted "fault" but then said that on such a deserted road I had fallen to the temptation of "opening it up for a bit".
Second time the police officers were more interested in "What kind of Porsche is that?" than writing out a ticket. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/tongue.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> Sweet!
Third time I used the excuse that my "American" car with a MPH odometer was hard to read at night and I could not see the KmPH numbers. That officer was a MB owner and admitted that it was easy to "go fast" so
she just scolded me in front of my 13 year old daughter but then let me go. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/wink.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />
I have a feeling that my luck might now be running out.
But... I certainly agree that P-car drivers are more mature and careful. If I speed on the freeway, I will slow down as I see an overpass approaching, since invariably the radar trap is set up just under or past the overpass. I also check my side view mirror as I pass the on ramp to the free way and if I see that there is no police car parked there, I then speed up.
What always makes me chuckle is the lack of maturity of Mustang drivers at red lights! They rev several times to draw attention and I might nod in response, but when the light goes green I just let them go! On two occasions they ended up being pulled over just a short distance away. The urge to honk the horn is very strong! <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/laugh.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />
worth a speeding ticket thought of the day : I want to steal a donut truck and then lead police on a high speed chase only because I think it would be pretty funny to see cops chasing a donut truck on the news...
