this really is a 968 question
i am contemplating changing my tach to the 951 tach - it has a vacuum/boost gauge built in - this would allow me to delete my gauges in the center console, and change to a 2din deck
so, i need to check compatibility of the tach
issue 1: it gets its signal from the KLR - we don't have a KLR - but, i can add a MAP sensor and give its signal that way - however, i need to know the operating voltage range
issue 2: i need to determine if the rest of the connectorage and pluggery are the same - does anybody have a shot of the rear of one of the 951 tachs?
There not the most accurate. They are also feed by a electrical signal from the KLR which has a vacuum feed from the intake. So you will need to find some way to replicate that electrical signal.

i wonder how that connects? i see no connections - or is that the connector in the left part of the shot?m if so, this probably won't work

Not sure which connector. There is plenty of empty space at the bottom of the existing tach, why not add in a small digital boost gauge there?
now that just might work - i'll go down and look
that only leaves me the oil temp gauge to deal with, and i might have a solution for that one

That same site has those square gauges in anything you want. They even have a AFR that talks with the Innovate that looks exactly the same as the boost gauge above.
yeah - saw that - going down now to look - i have a couple of ideas
while i can figure out where and how to mount them, the only place they could go would require extreme dimming on the backlight, so i'll have to look into that - also, the temp gauge only reads celcius, and i don't think i want to get into coverting in my head - i would also need to figure out if the display could be flipped, as i want the wires to come out opposite sides if i choose to run 2 of them

from my experiance, 951 boost gauges are not accurate at all.
i think the problem is that many do not know how the gauge reads - the left of the 1 is vacuum - the right of the 1 is boost
yes, but when my aftermarket (very accurate) gauge is reading 1 bar, the OEM gauge is way off. I've seen this on a few 951's. So i no longer trust 951 boost gauges to be accurate.
well, since the 951 gauge only goes to 1 bar, i can see how it might be off at that extreme - most gauges are off at one end or the other (look at our speedos)
i really only need the gauge for a "go/no go" check - i don't really need to see how much boost it is making, since that changes relative to temperature - what i do need is to be able to tell at a glance that i don't have a vacuum leak, boost failure, or extreme overboost
i'll probably end up with 2 square gauges set into the cluster - this seems like the easiest way to get them both, and have it uniform - i'll likely have to dim the LEDs, but that's not a huge ordeal
i'm probably ordering them today
the only thing holding me back is the commitment at that point to the complete stereo change - that's a lot of work - i want it, but i'm really lazy

lol - if you saw how involved this system is, and how much work, you'd understand my reluctance to tear it apart AGAIN - i'm so done with working on this car - i am really focused on having it all completely done by the end of the month, and actually driving it all season - so, i am drawing some lines in the sand on projects
+1 To how really inaccurate it is. Pretty much worthless on a 951. Boost gauge is usually one of the first accompanying mods done on a 951, because no one trusts the VDO one. I got a couple in the garage, let me know if you need more pics, I can take them with my phone.
i doubt that it is really that inaccurate - more likely people just don't know what boost they should be seeing - many don't realize that boost is only on the right side of the 1, and the left side is vacuum - basically it is a 2 bar gauge, the first bar is normal atmospheric pressure - so, at full swing, it will only read 14.7psi of boost - the 951 is set to .75bar max boost, or 10.88 psi at full boost, so it would swing through vacuum, across the "1' and into boost, but never hit full swing
also, most people don't realize that max boost is at 3krpm and it FALLS after that to a max boost pressure of 7.5psi boost
basically this means that if you are really on it, the most the gauge will go is 3/4 the way from 1 to 2, and most of the time it will only go half way
so, it is probably a lot more accurate than is given credit for being
Hey Flash,
I have a 951 gauge cluster in my garage if you want to take a look at it. I think It has all of the wiring harnesses attached as well with the wires cut behind the harness.
