ah - interesting. i was hoping you did your programming with the Motronic. it would be nice to be able to get into the variocam programming in the ECU, but so far i have not seen that in the maps.
how the heck did you physically connect the system? did you hack into the harness?
I bought Vems PnP unplug Motronic, plug in Vems and off we were ; so no worries there ...
Last week we loaded the latest firmware, don't ask me which version, just the latest

We have LHD cars here in Holland, just like you guys. The engine mount on the right hand side is the problem, since the 968 has power steering and the 944 does not. The 'clock' at the end of the steeringshaft ? ? is higher then the 944's i've seen. Take a look under the hood of the 968 and you'll see what I mean.
indeed going the 8v way will be cheaper and easier but not quiet as exclusive as the 16v way is ... ; I'm sure you are aware of the fact that the 951 inlet manifold wont fit the 16 v head ...
Funny detail is that the variocam works longer with the Turbo charged engine. We now have it programmed to work up until 6100 rpm with an 40 Nm increase from 5700-6100 rpm, where the N/A 968 shuts it down @ 5400 rpm and indeed works contraproductive if left open.

All the 944's Ive owned had power steering. The only ones that didnt to the best of my knowledge were the early cars...pre-86'. Think was an option then, but not standard. Ill take a look, but pretty sure its a direct fit. Yeah 16v has its advantages...so does the 8v. Exclusivity...meh, that wont effect my decision.
You're more or less right, PET says power steering available from '89 on .... so should be a direct fit ...

Hmmmm. Maybe differences in Euro spec/production? Ive owned an 87' turbo, and an 88' NA, currently own an 86' turbo, all have/had power steering. Ive rebuilt a few power steering racks. Got one on the bench about to be torn apart, and rebuilt now. My hemostats are in storage, need em to pull the seals.
