Good to see a discussion on Turbos again. As you may or may not know I'm planning on doing a Turbo on my 968. I will post progress as the build goes along. Of course the build is being done at IMA Motorsport. Had to use an S2 engine as the 1st two 968 blocks had cracks. The block has been sleeved and squirters drilled and block machined by Advanced Racing in Wareham, Ma. It's been a struggle to get it finished as the weather in NE was a big hinderance. Finally ready to shipped to IMA. What know so far on components is: Carillo pistons and connecting rods, Garrett Turbo, 968 crank, Motec Engine mangement system, larger injectors (don't know size yet), Sachs clutch (it needed to replaced).

518 hp to the wheels. Outstanding! I must have this.

This may be a nube question, so apologies in advance, but is it possible to get a SC setup to have the same power as the Turbo set-ups you guys are creating?

not really
there are advantages of the SC though, which is why i went that route. torque is more linear, making the car easier to drive. reliability is dramatically increased. cost is also a major factor here. i have yet to hear of anyone doing a turbo, with those kinds of numbers, that does not have low rpm drivability issues. it's just the nature of a big 4.

518 hp at the wheels - holy s**t, in a 3000 lbs 968 that has to translate to a sub 10 sec Q-mile ?

probably not. it's really hard to get that much power to hook up, and the clutch isn't built for anything much over 300hp. the dump required to keep it on boost to get a good launch would probably rip everything apart.
it always cracks me up when somebody looks at peak numbers, and doesn't stop to think about where those numbers are, or what part throttle is like. any idiot can slam something together and make big WOT peak numbers. but those are worthless. i stopped being impressed by that stuff a very long time ago. for me, it's all about how the car drives at 15mph in a parking lot, starts up on a hot or cold day, and how much of a pain in the ass it is to deal with.

agreed, none of the 968 turbos ( Powerhaus , etc ) of which we know are really comfortable and civilized driving / touring cars when it comes down to cruising at a normal pace, but when you can simply annihilate a $ 400,000 brand new Ferrari , turning it into a lamp post, for some people there is quite a bit of satisfaction that comes with that.. of course one can also do that with a Tesla now that I think about it..

No Europe this year (too bad because the dollar is much stronger against the Euro). Melva wanted to SCUBA for vacation this year...not so much on the Danube
