re: wobble. did you balance the pressure plate? i have yet to find one that is right. the DMF usually absorbs things, but not always. with a single mass flywheel, it's really important to balance everything
re: other disks. i looked at every model of porsche and vw that had a disk the right diameter. nothing fit with our flywheels. that's why i had to make one. i was not interested in complete swaps, as i wanted something that would work with existing 968 flywheels and pressure plates.
Well, we're a few month down the road. I took the 968 down to the track a few weeks ago and it drove and beheaved like a dream ; really, really fast and perfectly reliable in all aspects. The engine did run hotter than normal, but that's what you'd expect when running a track ; some 10 degrees above normal, but steady in that area. No loss of oil or coolant whatsoever. So I'm convinced now I did do a good job on the engine-build. Only thing left is the gearbox which does not change gears as smooth as I would like and jumped out of third gear a few times when gearing down to 3rd under hard breaking for a corner.
The wobbling of the Spec clutch and flywheel is over since I mounted a solid transmission mount under there, but I got a screaming gearbox in return, so that's not the perfect solution yet. Now thinking of buying a new mount, have it stiffened up and see if that keeps the tranny in place and the noise out of the car.
Furthermore I'm in the process of buying a Turbo S final drive and rebuilding my spare transmission, which should give me a top speed of ( well over ? ) 300 Km/h. Hope I get this gearbox under the car by July, drive a few Km's and then back to the Dyno for the high boost adjustments ! 500 Hp here I come !
This is going to be a very nice summer .... <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/rock.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />
I'll keep you guys posted !
Regards, Frank
Dimma, A Turbo gives you wings.........500 BHP... 300 km/h + is F... fast. At that speed maybe I would install a rollcage for safetyreasons. Have you thought about it?
Yep, but no go ....
yet ?
Interesting build. Very nice looking. Wonder how well the h2o i/c works? They're not meant to be quite as effective overall as air 2 air but looks extremely compact. Makes me think of using one in concert with the fmic?
Those injectors seem a little on the small side for a boosted application but are you still only boosting to .4 bar? You will run out of fuel if you raise the boost up over 1 bar with stock fuel pump too. I run 3x 044s with 1000cc injs and they will probably be swapped for bigger ones once the bigger motor goes in soon. Do you use E85?
You still running Mo30 suspension? Have you modified it even? Very soft and old school. What sort of times are you doing around the 'Ring? Any incar video?
Swirl pot with two 044s. The other is under the car in normal position.
Inside/out, that car is stunning
Yes, boost is 0,4 bar ; next tuesday I'll be on the Dyno for high boost ; Curious whether the injectors are big enough, and the pump is good enough. More worried about the thermal side as a matter of fact but we'll see ...
and Yes still on the M030 suspension. Had a friend of mine rebuild the Koni's and it's still the best choice for my semi street car i.m.o.
No timed laps on the ring so far.
Look forward to your results. I’m sure you will have to upgrade your fuel system once you increase the boost.
I had Mo30 on my car. Had them rebuilt and upgraded too. Changed to KW suspension which was vastly better.
Oh, btw, what are those Rods you bought from down here? Did they have a brand name?
Dimma very nice 968. Question are you running the factory oil cooler and radiator setup?
How about this ? 518 Hp and 670 Nm @ 1 bar !
The wastegatespring started to fiddle @ 700 Nm. More to come ...
@ Majsc : yes factory oil cooler and radiator.
@ 333PG333 : Sorry, don't know, got them of Ebay Au ...
Oh and yes, we indeed had to change the fuel pump for an 044 ; around 500 Hp it ran short. Injectors are 875 cc instead of 675 I mentioned before. Should be good enough for 750 pk. They are at 68 % duty cycle at the current 500 bhp config. H2o intercooler works fine but looks to be at the end of what it can do ; runs to 25 degrees over ambient at full throttle which is more then I would wish for ...
only the gearbox........... what was the speed at the tacho at full throttle in six? Frank I assume that you used the gearbo with the longer gearing in sixth?
Regards Richard
Yep, the longer gearbox is under the car but the runs were done in 4th gear and we didn't measure top speed.
Hi Guys,
It's been 2 years since I've posted here and the car is still doing great ; no issues on reliability so far but I did make some changes to the setup : the water to air cooler could in the end not keep up with the 500+ bhp so I had a front mount intercooler made which does the job ; inlet temps don't get over 40 C ( on the track ) now. The hot air flows from the Turbo to the front mount intercooler, then through the water to air cooler to the inlet ; a kind of a 2 stage rocket ... I did get an issue with cooling on the Nordschleife ( not on the road ). Not very surprising since the radiator is stock and over 20 years old : I'am actually surprissed that it did it's job for so long with these Hp. I'am going to have a full alu radiator made by the same guy who produced my fmic and he assures me my cooling issues will be over by then.
Hope you guys are all well !
Regards, Frank
Just read your car's story. VERY cool car Frank!
Great to hear that it runs well. Perhaps later this year a cup or coffee at your place? I saw lately that it seems a bit quiet with the dutch 968 adicts. Perhaps they all work to hard as I do.☺
just read this thread for the first time from start to finish - awesome!
