pretty much:
spin off old filter
clean up big mess
spin on new one
giggle at how simple a solution
sit back, drink a beer and be amazed at american engineering
it comes with very complete step by step instructions

Hey guys - resurrecting an old thread to ask why the tall filter won't fit - per flash's note above. Does the taller unit hit the timing gear casing?

yup

i think the site said it was 95 bucks - the link is at the bottom of my original post
The site shows the 25-2821 to be $120.00 What am I missing?

It's probably the increase in price over the 5 years since the $95 price was discussed.

Oh Lord............I didn't even look at the date of Flash's thread.

+1 on the Canton filter. Much easier job now, with no mess.
Now I just need a simple way to get the oil out, instead of jacking car, removing pan, removing oil pan bolt, getting oil all over my hands and driveway because I have the drip pan a few inches off where the oil is aimed, etc. Doesn't anyone have a solution, like something as easy as flipping the sunroof switch?

you could do that, but the car would have to be upside down for it to drain out

Scott, the first time I changed the oil in my car I managed to loose about 2 litres inside the pan and out all 4 sides as it drained onto my concrete! Try to catch 4 separate streams with one pail, Argggh.
Before reassembly I notched a nice 4 cm. semi-circle where the drain plug sits so now I can remove the bolt quickly with my farmer hands (as my wife call them) and the oil can't reach the pan anymore. I still the Canton on the must have list though as the upper area is still a messy bear even if you stuff rags in ahead of time.

Do I detect a need for a new D1R product...the 968 Rotisserie???

don't laugh - i used to have one for the mgb chassis so we could do all the setup work more easily

Good one, Flash! I would find all of the loose change too....
I am laughing now, but now when I'm under the car trying to anticipate where to position the catch basin.

Can I put this in the race car? Does the added filtering restrict flow at higher RPMs? Any pressure issues? This looks MAC DADDY!

AHHH my dad had a 1969 MGB coupe with wire wheels and knock offs when I was a teen. Brings back memories.

crespo - i assumed you already had one in there - pretty standard thing anymore

Ah, my first car was a '64 MGB with wire wheels and knock offs. Wrecked it once in the rain in Ithaca, NY and then rolled it on a road near Riverside, CA. That got me two life changing things. 1 - I bought my first Porsche using the insurance proceeds for a down payment a 1967 911 - guards red. 2. I resolved to never again do high speed events on public roads, leading to many happy (and safe) hours on tracks all over the US.

i miss the mgb - i've had a dozen or so, and the last one was by far the most fun, but it had very little in common with a stock car (go figure) - it was quicker through the corners than the 968 though, even with all my mods
07-14-2010, 02:39 PM
I have the 25-482 in my 968. I believe I had to take the toothed belt cover off to get it in, and a wee bit of filing off an edge on the cover.
07-19-2010, 01:51 PM
tm - great pics, thank you.
question: can you define "wee bit of filing" more specifically? it looks to me as if you might have taken off 1/8" - seems like a lot! reason I'm asking is I'm still negotiating my return with Canton - might upgrade to the bigger spin-on model - 'cause of course bigger is better! - if the required mod is not too much trouble. I'm going to be taking my timing cover off soon anyway to replace my hall sender so might be the right time to mod for the bigger filter as well.
