make ABSOLUTELY SURE you have it where you want it BEFORE you let it drop down into place - once that tape hits the body of the car, there is NO moving it

Thanks for the tip guys. Now I'll be extra careful. I hear a little Windex or soapy water helps with these things. Gives you a few extra seconds to slide it around and align it.

I just fitted my set. They look fantastic! I used windex on one side. It was a cold day and I must have put too much on because I was holding it for a long time and it still was not setting down. In the end I removed the sill plate and wiped the sill down and all was well. Other side I just lined it up and set it down without windex.
yeah - liquids do not work with the adhesive tape they use - you really have to put it down dry

Windex worked just fine for me... you just have to be patient while the Windex evaporates (hold the sill cover in place). Only takes a minute or two.
I screwed up the passenger's side because I did not move the car. Because I did not move the car, I could not open the passenger's door all the way and I ended up botching the install due to lack of room for me! As a result, the very front corner of the sill cover is ruined because I had to pry the cover up before it fully set so as to reposition.
I bought a new sill cover from Harvey and will reinstall soon (after I get the old one out). I will make sure I have clear access to the sill this time!
Just ordered mine from Harvey today. He is leaving for vacation until the 21st and will ship then. If you send him an E-mail and he doesn't repond, you know why.
hmmm - perhaps i did not wait long enough, but after a few minutes, i gave up on the windex, wiped it off, and just laid the thing down where it wanted to go
bummer about having to remove it - that will likely prove to be a frustrating and paint damaging proposition - i would take your time and use plastic coated tools only
you might be better off removing the damaged area (or getting it out of the way) and then laying the new one over the old one
Man, Harvey must be a busy guy these days
Has he ever been propositioned on advertising with the forum?
he does not wish to advertise anywhere at all - he really wants to stay below the radar - he does not even want his email address published on websites

OK, I know the type. Laid back and cool. Harvey is a pleasure to work with and I'm sure the controled pace is the reason why. Reminds me of the ol' retired fisherman joke.
I'm really looking forward to seeing his work.
more than that, he doesn't want any grief from porsche for using their logos and stuff - his volume is very low, and he just doesn't need that kind of pain
Yes, Porsche can be quite aggressive with their name and logos etc. A local independent called himself "Porsche Only" for many years until Porsche sued him for name infringement. He took the sensible way out and changed his name instead of litigating with a big company.
Tom
Any chance you can send me Harvey's information as well? Would love to add this touch to the car.
Got mine. Will put them on this weekend, with great care. Still debating which looks better - the Porsche lettering I have there now, or the 968 ss sills..
I did test-place the sills and think it's a better look...probably...

Anyway, it terms of not screwing up when mounting these.. I was thinking if I put some tape right on the diagonal line of the base sill and then when mounting the piece I first place that edge alongside the tape, holding it with one finger there from sliding anywhere at that corner, one should be able to guide the rest of it down slowly and reduce the chance of mis-alignment that way, no ?

Already had some email exchanges with Harvey. Plastic (no metal to paint contact) all the way and I will definitely take my time. The damage really isn't bad and no one would notice it unless I pointed it out. But I know it is there and I am frustrated that I did not take my time, so I am replacing it.

Sills for the win! And yes, using some painter's tape to make a line at one end helps. That's what I did. Post up a pic when done!

Another solid tip. Dan, your opaque decal looks good as well. But if you already bought the sills...
I'm a bit surprised no one brought this up ; is there a reason the sills are about 1" shorter in the front and about 1/2" shorter in the back , whereas had they been longer they would have covered the entire area right up to both edges and, IMO, look a lot better that way ? It does not seem there would be any intereference whatsoever if they went all the way to the edge ( right to the the point where it starts bending up ) and also have a longer tip on the rear diagonal to align with the entire line there.. I supposes this is a Harvey question, in case it's a functional issue of sorts and I'm just not able to detect what that may be - not a big deal, simply curiosity. I installed them, they are very nice, but stopping short of the front edge looks kinda' weird and bothers me a bit... more so than the rear finish..
The size towards the front of the car could extend a bit but the size that triangles towards the rear fits very well. However it is squared and not rounded but I like the look.
Thanx for all the tips. Used both the windex and marked it off with tape. On drivers side as I was aligning the left the right side touched and grabbed. But thanx to the windex, I was able to slide it over.
So here are a couple of pics of my freshly installed custom sills.
