Full Version: Sunroof repair, not the usual one

While raising my roof a while back I heard a pop/snap and the roof just fell back down and the arms retracked all the way back. Then, of course, I tried working the switch back and forth a few time, duh....Nothing....

I did a search for the typical gear repair and started taking things apart to see what I had. I found the plastic tube piece just off the motor was separated, not sure if it is suposed to be. And by working the switch, the motor had pulled the cable back into the fender compartment and now it wont go forward, only back.

Does anyone know what I'm dealing with here?

I took a couple of pics but can't seem to upload, and they're not posted anywhere on the net for a link... <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/dry.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

TIA,

Mike D.
Ok, I posted a couple pics over on the bird board... <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

That picture paints a bads story. That plastic bit has snapped, you shouldn't see the cable inside. I assume now it is binding and not operating.
I've had mine retract the cable as seen in the pic. I had to manually re-position it and re-index the lifters. If one of the micro-switches works intermittently there's always the possibility of the cable over-extending.

p.s. I'll have to keep my eyes peeled next time I'm in SC, I'm out there quiet often...
Anybody fixed this problem? My motor and cable works fine. But the tube extends when I

try opening the roof so it won't go up. When I close the the tube returns back to the motor.
