VW problems with deisels now in Porche's & takata air bag m
#1

As reported last week the trouble with VW lying about fuel economy in their diesel engines has now been found to be in Porsches as well. So spending large bucks as in a Porsche does not protect you in the lies.

And Today Takata regarding the airbags mess was hit with a $200,000,000 million dollar fine the largest aginst any motor vehicle company.

Now VW has confessed that they also misrepresented the carbon dioxide emissions and fuel consumption figures as well. Glad I didn't own any stock......

I hope it turns out that Porsche was just accepting what VW told them about their engines and didn't write their own "fakin" it" software.

While Porches do not have the Takata brand device in the steering wheel we do have something made by which company?. And with our cars now 20-23 years old how do we know if they will even work or not kill us when they go off.

No idea as to the manufacturer of our air bags, but given they are among the first generation technology, you can probably expect the equivalent a 10X power of a Mike Tyson punch to your face, when and if they ever deploy..

Is there anyway to get Porsche in Germany to give us information as to the brand of the unit and if they know of any problems with the devices after so many years? If we got the name of the manufacturer we could possible write them a letter if they the manufacturer knows of any problems.

There was another thread about year, year and a half ago, that dug into this topic. Might be better to carry this over to that thread.

As a VW shareholder... all I can say is wtf??? Like nobody is going to find out? Now Porsche and Audi are involved too. Greed, stupidity or a combination of both! You would have thought they would have learned something from GM?! As far as airbags... I'm going Club Sport and deactivating passenger side as my girlfriend is 5' 2". The old bag (airbag LMAO) could do more harm than good. JMHO!

the investigation has expanded to gasoline engines as well for various VW group cars , the aforementioned Porsche and Audi , plus Skoda and ...ready for a laugh ?...the Bugatti Veyron , whose 16 cyl quad turbo engine is made by VW of course ... Oh, the horror of owning a $ 2.6 million car and realizing it may not be as squeaky clean as you thought ... Lol . But, VW vehimately denies any gas engines have been manipulated in a similar manner .. Ok, sure if they say so...

what could be very interesting would be if Porches gas engines prove to be manipulated, and the fuel economy is worse than it was stated, could big brother come back and
fine individual owners for the fuel tax?

As requested. I am not losing much sleep over this.

Dear Mr. Kim Strong,

Earlier this week the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) informed Porsche Cars North America, Inc. that it believes Auxiliary Emission Control Device software was installed in vehicles with V6 TDI diesel engines, which had not been adequately described in the certification process.

Volkswagen AG, as our group parent, has assured us that it is working intensively to clarify and resolve this matter as soon as possible, and that it will cooperate fully with the EPA to completely clarify the issue. In the meantime, we can assure you that your Porsche Cayenne Diesel is technically safe and roadworthy.

Porsche remains committed to providing you with the world’s best sports cars and to keeping you and the public informed. During the ongoing investigation, we hope we may ask for your patience. We apologize for any concern or inconvenience this causes you.

Sincerely,

Alexander Pollich

President and Chief Executive Officer

Porsche Cars Canada, Ltd.

But spewing more pollutants than it "claims" to? I'm sure it's actually a great vehicle and I would love to have one...but what the hell are they thinking? They more or less admitted wrong doing in their press releases, right? Just shut the heck up and stop the plummet in my share prices!!!! Ugh! Guess you just have to laugh about it at this point?!

I have taken my 968s to the same smog test station for as long as I've owned the cars....but it's a bit of PITA to get to, and to get in, so I decided to take one of the 968s to a different station which is very close to my house and where I've had several of my other cars tested recently ; during weekdays you can get in pretty much right away and done in about 15 minutes, so I thought I'd bring the 968 in . Much to my surprise the tester informed me they do not test Porsches ! I asked why, and he said his boss will not allow testing of either Porsches, or VWs, for the same reason ( the VW emissions debacle ). I explained to him that VW involvement with Porsche came into play decades AFTER 1994, and besides, all of those VWs were recalled anyway, but he just shrugged his shoulders and said.. I don't int know anything about that I just have to listen to my boss. I'm thinking.. ok, thanks Goober, and tell your boss Gomer to read up on some current stuff.. :glare:

Yes, far too often I've had to learn that unfortunately the existence of a business has no correlation to capability.

Goober and Gomer  ... Classic.

Yeah , theres a bunch of them running around . At first , Ive even had a heck of a time finding a smog check station willing to test my 968s because theyre supercharged - the moment they open the hood and see the SC they refuse to test it . I can show them the CARB certification sticker which is right there in plain view affixed inside the hood, I can show them all the detailed readings from the last test which passed with all markers so far below the tolerances its dowright remarkable ( I keep that last test paperwork in the trunk ) , which also has a note on it that the car is supercharged, eliminating any doubt that it could have been NA at the time of that test , but all of that to no avail.. they had the same glazed look in their eyes as Goober did . Luckily I did find several places after making a bunch of calls who completely understood and advised they will gladly do the job .
