So, I'm out heading down I-5 minding my own business when some kid and his "rice rocket" parks himself right on my rear bumper. There isn't much traffic and I'm traveling along a 80 mph,but there he is, right on my bumper. Maybe he thinks all Porsche drivers have radar detectors, I don't know, but I don't like being tailgated. So when I get a nice clear section of road ahead, I crank up the speed and drop him off my tail, put some distance between the the two of us and then go back to cruising at 80. After a while he reappears, I slow down hoping he'll get frustrated and pass me and be gone. Doesn't work, so at the next opportunity, I drop him again. Eventually he reappears but instead of sitting on my tail he makes an abrupt lane change and goes flying past me on the right side, engine just screaming, and after getting ahead of me pulls back into my lane, gets a hundred or so feet in front of me and then blows up his f@#$^*g engine!!!
I hit the brakes and moved as far left as I dared hoping to avoid the debris field. Didn't work as I got hit with coolant, lubricating oil and engine parts that buggered up the paint on the nose piece, especially on the right side and the right front wheel. Both head light lenses were struck and damaged as was one of the fog lamp lenses, and got a couple of knicks on the windshield. Fortunately, no holes in the radiators or other damage, but the car was absolutely slimed with coolant and oil.
I eventually pulled off the freeway on the right side and after inspecting my car walked back to see if I could get this fools insurance information. Turns out, he has no insurance, what a surprise!!, and wouldn't give me his name, so I got his vehicle license went back to my car and called the CHP to report the debris on the freeway, told them that my car had received minor damage and that I would file a claim through my insurance. Also told them the driver had no insurance. Technically speaking, there was no accident in the usual sense of the word so we'll see where the claims process goes. Th kid had a nitrous oxide tank in the trunk and I guess he decided he was going to impress me with his blinding speed.
Is it just me or have the rest of you had people sit right on your tail at high speed. I notice it most on I-5 and I have had everything from "rice rockets" to minivans pull this stunt. It really is as if they think that because I drive a Porsche, I must have a radar detector or maybe it's that special "aura" that surrounds us Porsche drivers that protects us from radar and speeding tickets.
