junk in the trunk - enough space to fit a bike ?
#1

for those of us with a coupe / hard top / hatchback/ or whatever the latest P.C. term is for the car - I presume one can fit just about any size bike ( as in bicycle ) back there if the rear seats are pushed down. I could test this at home with my own bike but need to reply to a friend sometime today before I have a chance to get back in the evening and try it.. So, does anyone know if there's plenty of room in there to fit a typical mountain bike ? The one I'm planning to transport does not have removable pedals ( kinda weird, I thought they all did ) so my only concern is the height; closing the hatch with sufficient room to clear the distance between the two pedals. I imagine taking the front wheel off and pushing the bike in as far as it will go the pedals will be somewhere in the middle of the hatch glass slope and thus enough to clear..but not entirely sure

You'll likely have to remove both wheels. Depends on the wheelbase of the frame. Road bike yes, but I think a full suspension mtb will be a tight fight without rear wheel removal. My buddy use to throw his racebike in the back of his 944 every practice.

I have a size XL full suspension 29er. Fits fine with seat and both wheels removed and rear seats folded down. Pedals are not an issue.

My first car was a first gen Acura Integra hatchback - could fit three mountain bikes in the back of that one!

Thanks. Rear wheel removal / reinstall could be a PITA so if I can get away with just the front one off that would be ideal . Anyway, just got home now ( earlier than anticipated ) so I'll see if I can fit one of our bikes in there.

Man I remember putting my Yamaha 3 wheeler in the back of my 79 SAAB turbo. Hatch wouldn't close but it got me there till I bought a trailer.

Funny site that was.
