doughnut in the trunk

Considering our cars are over 20 years old anyone have an opinion on using the doughnut that's been baking in the trunk when you get a flat?

I just recently used mine with no problems and I even got it deflated so that it fits perfectly back in place. There was no obvious evidence of deterioration such as cracking. Tire held air for the week I had it on the car.

A few months ago I was very glad to have it with me. It got me home without having to pay for a very expensive tow truck. I also managed to get it back in the trunk.


I believe mine is a Vredestein tire.

I used mine several times "for real", and I also took it out a couple of times each year, pumped it up (hi Arnold) and then recollapsed it.  It always held air and fit back in the space perfectly. Did that with both cars and do it now with the spare in the Cayenne.
