Alternator Voltage Regulator
#1

If your starting to see your voltage running a little low, especially when you have a large load on, like lights and A/C you may need to change your voltage regulator. Or you may just want to replace it as a PM item. Also while your there check the condition of the positive cable to the alternator the insulation has a tendency to crack and fail. The part # for the regulator if you want a higher voltage adjustable model is Transpo IB373A, it can be found for sale online if you search for it, or possibly at your local alternator shop.

I came upon this while running down a running hot condition while the car was under high electrical load. So it is something to look at if your running warm.

To change the regulator it only requires the removal of two Phillips screws, a stub Phillips seems to work best. The regulator is located at the bottom of the alternator and can be changed while it's on the car, thru the engine bay. While you have it off, run some sandpaper across the surface of the left screw hole, it also used as the ground point for the regulator.

Comparison of an old one and a new one. This came out of a 83k mile car with an alternator that was replaced at some point along the way.

mine is a rather unique situation - i have power pulleys, which make the idle voltage a touch lower than i'd like

I have no affiliation, but I just got the TRANSPO IB373A from this online retailer for 14.95 + shipping.

Hello,

I have an issue too , with the voltage regulator.
I change my Alternator / Starter cable who make my car turning "On" the starterĀ  without the key.

I decided to change my oldest regulator by a Febi , car runs @ 14.05v on multimeter on the battery
With the oldest car runs @ 13.75v on multimeter on the battery

after 10 min at idle the battery begin to smoke...

So i guess i need to change the regulator , i buy one from bosch same ID part : 92860314200
