Alpine 9857

How about an update/review on your Alpine 9857 - I'm thinking about going with one mostly for the ipod connection...How's it sound, do you like the ipod control, figure out the AM problem - general over all impression - thanks cool.gif

I bought a Traffic Pro II (the model that was made for ford) a couple of years ago that the guy who had it converted it to amber lighting from the ford green that I've never gotten around to installing. I have the harness to convert the remote CD stack to RCA connections for the ipod (which I already do with my current stereo), but I would really like to be able to see the songs playing and control the ipod through the stereo...and I have little use for the navigation - while I use my ipod virtually everytime I drive my car....

I'm also wondering if it is possible to change the lighting on the alpine (not the Bio display) to amber - just the blue and green back lighting of control buttons? anyone? dry.gif

My CDA-9847 which has the SAT ready AiNet connections and AiNet loop through capabilities for iPod has four choices of backlighting...blue, green, red, amber. I thought the amber would match the dash lights better, but the amber looks more orange than yellow and is too close to the red IMO. I do not use an iPod with mine, but I've seen others on the board mention that the navigation is cumbersome. If you don't plan on fiddling with the iPod that much while driving, it should would out just fine. I don't think Alpine changed anything from the 9847 to 9857 models. Hope that helps.

I also have the Alpine 9857. I had it installed by Bob & Ron's Worldwide Stereo in Montgomeryville, PA. Originally they were going to put the ipod connection in the glovebox, but I asked them to wire it to the arm rest and I just removed all of the cassette holders. I bought one of those silicon pads so the ipod doesn't slide around and I think it keeps it a little cooler, not much, but a little bit. To make a long story short it is AMAZING. I still have not listened to a CD because I always listen to the ipod. They warned me, that AM might not work, but for me it works perfectly. I also had new speakers and an amp installed. I don't know much about these systems so I trusted them to get it right and they sure did. Searching for songs can be distracting, but you just need to set up playlists. I can send some pics if you want. Just forward me your e-mail address.

another thing...

I was told the difference between the 47 and the 57 is that the 57 has 3 lines of text vs 2 with the 9847? I was so excited to get a good stereo, I still have not read the book, I will have to check it out to see if I can change the colors.
