Alarm Installers Bay Area
#1

I've been doing a little searching on this site and found that most of you have gone with the Bulldog system. Is there a reason why this alarm over other alarms like Clifford or Viper? Is there also anyone in the Bay Area that you would recommend for install since I don't want just anyone hacking up my electrical system in my 968? Thanks for your help. Brian

actually, most of us went with the bulldog, not for the alarm, but for the remote trunk opening

the factory alarm already covers all openings in the car, and is as effective as anything else

as for aftermarket alarms, i would not install anything that did not call your cell phone or pager - bells, horns and sirens are useless, and can be disabled by any average thief in less than 10 seconds - people have gotten so used to blaring sirens that they now pretty much ignore them

motion sensors are not a good idea - the same goes for glass breakage sensors - both of these tend to false easily, only resulting in annoying the neighbors

if you had a ragtop, you could possibly benefit from a "radar" unit, but they false too - i used to have one of these in my mgb (viper system) but the cat next door set it off all the time, resulting in nice claw scratches on my paint as he jumped out scared

You bring up great points. I guess what I really need is another keyless entry system installed since the one on the car is starting to malfunction. I have to dig in the records to find out which one it is. I'm not the one who had it installed. Sorry to hear about the cat problem though. I know how it is. There is some animal in my apartment complex that always seems to pick my car to sleep on. Thank God I have the cover on the car at night.

Kodomokid,

I found an alarm installer and subsequently a good friend by visiting installation areas of a couple of Best Buys. It didn't take long to figure out who had his act together and had been doing that type of work for a period of years.

I just installed a new keyless system a couple of months ago. Instead of the bulldog, I went with a newer version that is similar to the VW keyfob. Works great with the factory alarm and has all the bells and whistle. You can do a search in the mod forum for the post if you are interested
