Today my wife and I adjusted the top on our `94 Cab using the threaded forks and we were successful.

The latch rolling cam wasn't sitting in the well on the driver's side and could sometimes be popped out by hand unlike the passenger side which locked in with a thud. The driver's side seems to have been made worse when we made the top manual and loosened the two 19mm bolts. The top was replaced a few years ago by the previous owner and it had not been put down since. We decided manual operation was best.
I did pry down a bit at the latch with the underside trim off as a final adjustment. Removing the rear trim probably took more time than the adjustments. Here are a few pictures of the latch and the threaded fork on the driver's side:
