G'day

I'm going to be in Adelaide March of 2007 (wife is playing tennis in the WPFG's 16th-25th). Looking for any suggestions/must see or do???

After the games we plan to take another week or so and go to Sydney and/or the gold coast or ?????.

We were in Melbourne about ten years ago for the last games and then went on up to Port Douglas and spent a few days on the reef...we had a great time and are looking forward to returning.

My wife and I went to Australia 18 years ago and had a great time. We watched the fairy penguins come ashore at dusk on Philip Island, southeast of Melbourne. It was hilarious and memorable. We took the Kuranda Railway from Cairns to Kuranda and hiked through the forest, with enormous bats hanging from the treetops. The beach at Surfer's Paradise (Gold Coast) was spectacular, as was the snorkling at Michaelmas Key in the middle of the Great Barrier Reef. We did a great hike in the Blue Mountains about 90 minutes west of Sydney. Finally, Sydney and its harbor are beautiful, and there is always lots to do there. The weather should be great this time of year.

I'd love to get back some day and get a chance to see more of the interior. I've read a few books by Dick Francis and Nevile Shute that took place in Australia's interior and now I want to see it. One book I remember was "A Town Like Alice" by Nevile Shute. It's a little dated but I enjoyed it a lot.

Hi,

Well, I live in Adelaide, and there is lots to see and do here. Pity you can't change your wife's visit to November as the Adelaide Classic Rally is on then (like now...)

March is a pretty good time here, but it can be hot, and the sun will burn you to a crisp in about half an hour, so bring your hat and lots of susnscreen Without knowing what you like apart from 968's here are some things you could get upto in Adelaide, come march:

* Clipsal 500 street race is on 1-4 March - this is the local flavour of tintop racing with local Ford and GM V8 powered appliances.

* Keep an eye on the SA Porsche club website for the 2007 calandar: http://www.pcsa.asn.au/

* Adelaide Fringe festival is on 8-31 March. Lots of entertainment here, some of it good

Generally, there is plenty to see here. Adelaide is home to Australia's biggest and bestest wine industry, with plenty of charming cellar doors within an hour or two's drive from the city. Google for the Barrossa Valley, Clare Valley and Maclaren Vale wine areas. It also sits on the edge of the outback, so if you are after a desert experience, this is a pretty good place to start from.

Hope that helps...

Michael,

Thanks for the tips - we live in Sacramento, California - so the wine country sounds interesting. We won't get there until the week of the 12th - so the clipsal 500 is out, but i will keep an eye on the PCA calendar.

Bob - yes we had a great time durning our last trip - always said we would go back in a heart beat if the oppertunity arose...so we can't wait.
