Accelerator pedal
#1

This is a bit of an odd problem, but I don't think I'm going crazy here. Basically yesterday while I was on an onramp to get onto the highway when my gas pedal suddenly felt different when I changed gears. Basically it felt like there was a lot of resistance, or back pressure, trying to force the pedal up against my foot. I push down on it, hold it for like 3-4 seconds, and all of a sudden the resistance is either gone, or moved further down the pedal. I take my foot off the pedal, get back on, and it's there again. It feels like you're fighting against some electrical motor that gives way after a few seconds, and then starts fighting back when you take your foot off the pedal.

Cruise control works fine (sucks the pedal in when engaged, and gives it back when disengaged). And the problem is not present when the car is turned off.

The pedal feels more or less ok when I turn the car on after it has been sitting off for a while. It's only after 10 - 15 minutes of driving does the resistance build up to the point where it feels out of the ordinary.

Now I could have sworn that this is NOT how the pedal felt for the past 1.5 years I've had the car. My check engine light has been coming on more often (and I need to get my day time running lights fixed, I think maybe a fuse blew, or something), but this problem started yesterday from what I can tell.

My initial guess is that it has something to do with cruise control, and how it sucks in the pedal. Maybe some electrical fault it causing it to operate in reverse when cruise control is not engaged? This problem is, at most, an annoyance, but I'd rather figure out if this is normal, or if this is a symptom of a much larger / serious issue

For lack of a better term "mine feels stiff too"

I have lubed the linkage on the TB with no luck.

I removed the cable from the throttle body and the cable moves freely in its sheath.

I know the linkage is different from my 951 but, the peddle effort between the 2 is very noticable.

I have just been driving as it is.

Because the pedal feels different when the car is running versus when it's turned off, I'm inclined to think it has to be something other than a mechanical problem. Is there anything that sits between the pedal and the TB? Or does the wire connect directly?

The odd thing is, after driving the car, I pop the hood, and move the TB by hand and it doesn't feel any different than before. So this is all a bit mysterious

Here's a shot in the dark - I wonder if there could be a problem at the grommet where the throttle cable passes through the firewall? I don't know the specifics of this, but if the grommet has deteriorated, it could cause a feeling such as you describe.

Anchorman, turns out you were right, the problem was something like you had described. The difference was that the problem was located near the pulley where the metal wire comes out of the black hose. There is a blue tube about 3" long which had come out of the black hose and was moving back and forth with the throttle wire, and getting stuck on the pulley. I noticed this while I was checking the engine for any potential problems, so while the hood was opened I stepped on the pedal to see what was going on. I noticed this tube was acting weird, so I pushed it back into the black hose, problem solved! Went for a quick drive and the gas pedal feels smooth once again

Heh, simple things like this really bring joy back into driving this car Too bad it's so cold and potentially icy out there (Not to mention I had just cleaned the car!) or I would go out for a cruise!
