Hi all,
My name is Matt. I'm in the process of buying a salvage 968 for a street/track project. I'm in Redwood City Ca, and have had a 911sc, and a 944 n/a prior to this. My daily driver is a 71 VW bus that I restored with the help of forums like these. Looking forward to getting to know you all and, perhaps more importantly, these cars.

Hi Matt,

Welcome, that is my combo as well: a 968 and a VW bus (although it is an '89 Vanagon, the Syncro version with 4WD). I am very happy with this combination, the 968 does everything the VW can't, and the Vanagon does everything the 968 can't.

Joe, nice video, I know a road near the house where we used to hear the kids street drag racing at night (cops shut them down). Maybe we can put your 968 against my Vanagon -- don't worry, I'll give you .5 secs handicap [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif[/img]

Hi all, Firstly, yes, it's the red one...How did you know?
The VW bus is the perfect car about 50% of the time. It's a great roadtrip mobile if the idea is to stay there...Not so great for a day long romp up Hwy 1. (I s'pose "romp" wouldn't be the term here...more like slog). I'm hoping that the 968 will be everything the bus isn't. As for the drag racing video, I have one of those too! I won barely, but I can't take all the glory, that lady's electric scooter WAS weighed down with lots of groceries. [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif[/img]

Not much happens in the 968 world that this forum doesn't know about...I was telling someone the other day that 968s would have to be one of the least stolen vehicle in America, because someone here knows who's car it is... [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dry.gif[/img]

My Bus was stolen once. We were able to get the news to pick up the story and were able to find it through word of mouth.
Here's one of the articles as printed in the SF Chronicle...This is the one with the happy ending.

Well, The red salvaged one turned out to be a little rougher than I had hoped...But I stopped by to see a white one in the SF Bay Area the next day and Viola! I own it! 87K miles, beautiful shape, runs and handles better than anything I had driven up to that point. REALLY nice car, REALLY happy owner, REALLY have a lot of questions. good to hear, congrats on the purchase and welcome !
the rest of us who live here in the nearby cities ( san carlos, foster city, san mateo, woodside, etc..) occasionally get together for some coffe, beer, or what-not on one weekend or another, so it would be great to have a meet for a new "club member" celebration and car-talk.
just let me know when / if you feel like joining in and I'll see if we can organize a meet
