A/C evaporator is toast
#1

Hello from Australia.  Does anyone have any more cost  effective (quality) supply options for a 93 968 evaporator, other than Porsche (ex Germany @ US$1500).  My compressor is also done, but there seem to be plenty of good kits available for this.

Also, if anyone has a D1R short shift kit that they never got around to installing, I would be interested (I have a US postal address as well).  Failing that, recommendations on the next best option. Kicking myself for never buying this when it was available, as I just purchased a lovely 986 Boxster S for my wife which has a short-shifter installed - which we both love.

Thanks in advance.

Peter

There are other shift kits

JMG do one

Only 944 also do a shift kit

If it help, I can post you an evaporator from the U.K.

Or this on eBay

The 944 evaporator is the same part

Thanks Waylander.  I did see these on ebay when I did a bit of poking around.  Are they good quality, do you have any experience?  I had a bad experience with (what turned out to be) a cheap one for my landcruiser a while back.  I don't want to go to the trouble of replacing and put in a used part, so planning to put in a newbie.

Will have a look at the JMG short shifter.

Thanks for the reply.

Cheers,

Peter

The factory fit rads were made by LRO, this firm is now owned by NRF, this company is world wide

See if you can find a new one on their website, then see if you can track one down with the part number they give

No experience of any air con, my car does not have it

Hi, Waylander gave me some direction to source an evaporator.  My mechanic is dubious of the compatibility.  Does anyone have any experience with this company/part below?

The quote from Porsche Australia is circa $1500US, but given this part is behind dash, I don't want to install something that iI am not confident about.  With the amount of glass on these things, AC is a bit of a must when living in a sub-tropical climate...

Thanks in advance.

Found this in Germany
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/372958587350

And this in the USA
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/283195814820

So i decided to check Porsche themselves,

so there are two different ones, one upto 93 and one 93 on

so in US dollars, If Porsche have stock?

up to 92, 944 573 211 01 $769.33

93 on, 944 573 211 02 $897.72

but the plot thickens, when I search in PET for the part numbers above the first one 944 573 211 01 shows that it fits 944 >>> 1985>1990, then 968 to 1995, the second number 944 573 211 02 only fits the 968. so not sure what to make of that,

so I called Porsche Parts Department this morning, I can order the later one for £897 GBP less 5% discount, that works out at $1500 AUD,

you might get a better deal buying from the USA

Should not make a difference, as its all about the seals with a gas change,

You can upgrade whats in an older system to R134a by changing the seals and vac out all the old oil

Thats what I have been advised but Im by no means an ac expert

Hey guys, im recently also in need of an evaporator replacement. Has anyone had experience with the Four Seasons evaporator coil that is available specific to our cars? Any other tried and tested brands out there? Or is the genuine part from Porsche the only other available option?

Thanks

Ed
