I did a little bit of data capture and some 'averaging'. Actually it a bit more called a regression analysis for you mathematicians out there. You'll see the chart below is self explanatory. Excel file attached as well in case anyone wants to do some further data manipulation, these are simply scatter plots with a trendline added. (The excel file also has links in the car name in case you'd like to click right to the car on each line).
The plot shows asking price vs mileage. I did this also comparing asking price to car year, but as we might expect, the correlation is very, very low -- i.e. the year doesn't matter much. The plot is not in the image. The sample was all 968s nationwide in Autotrader yesterday.

That is good work! Fascinating.
Got time to disaggregate coupes and cabs? Then I think we have a basis for comparison with Bruce Anderson's work.
And of course, all of this comes with the caveat that asking price is not selling price.

Here is the trend separating cabs vs coupes (please see the legend). All the cars are in the 2 plots with diamond or square points, and there is a linear trendline for each category. This data suggests that coupes are more valuable, but I don't believe the data. The trendline for coupes (green) is heavily weighted by the 2 cars asking $29K range which are both coupes, and might be anomalous because the asking price is considerably higher than the remainder of the cars. My conclusion from the data would be that the difference in asking price between coupes and cabs is not significant.
I also added the plot of asking price vs car year in case anyone is interested (mentioned in previous post). The really low R-Squared value indicates little correlation. Of course the year is a factor, but the data indicates that mileage is a much more significant factor than year.
I don't think I'll get to the task for comparing to excellence market value....now where is that issue again? In the garage, the kitchen, the nightstand, the closet...oh...I know, it is probably in the bag I took to the last soccer dad outing...on no wait, I think I lent it to my friend considering a Boxster purchase... no, my other friend who want to buy a 993...oh sure...I'll probably get those copies back this week <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/laugh.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />
