968 rear logo in SILVER
#1

I bought my rear logo 968 numerals in custom painted silver and since it was about 10 years ago I cannot remember any longer from where I got them. I thought perhaps it might have been from Bumper Plugs or from Jaeger Engineering , but neither seem to have them among their products. Does anyone here know who used to customize and sell those ? The paint job was absolutely perfect and the logo looked as if it was factory made.

Surprised if it wasn't Jaeger. They have many letter colours and one is Synthetic Chrome which sounds like it might be the ticket?

Did not see it on their site but I'll check with Veronique. I emailed Eric at Bumper Plugs and found out they still can do that but he said Porsche raised the price for that emblem to astronomical figures ( gee, what a surprise ) and they don't offer it as a regular store item .

One off custom items are just way too expensive to do. So I suspect Jager it'snin the same position, unless they still have some old stock .

Dave, right you are ! Jager has them in a bunch of colors ; both the synthetic chrome and the synthetic nickel would be fine, and they're resonably priced so I ordered two sets , one in each of those colors. Will just use the one which looks best and keep the other as a spare..

Until someone says : " nice car, I thought that's the new Miata " Happened to a local 968er who owned a cab.

Might be because it was a cab! Since so few have heard of the 968 we should all be inured to this. Although I must admit having someone think your car is a Miata is either disillusioning or funny.

yup - i hate emblems all over a car. i like letting them guess. besides, it's just a cleaner look, and makes the rear look wider without them.

I can understand someone finding a slight resemblance ( cab only ) to a Jaguar XK convertible, but a friggin' Miata ?! Sheesh , how rude ! :-) ;-)

Anyway, I like the 968 numerals style and prefer them in a color which provides a stronger contrast with the car's color ( as opposed to the black ones on a blue, or green or probably most other colors except silver or white.. )

But I also understand those who want a "stealth" car and remove the rear logo just to keep the public at large guessing what the car is , although if you do that why not remove the hood crest also ? A bit more involved there because you have to plug the holes and paint over but hey go all the way , or not at all. Would be tough to do the latter for those with recessed hood crests , LOL.

My car just has "SPORT" in black against the metallic grey on the rear right, so its reasonably understated. Don't worry about people not knowing what you drive. Think of it like a finger pointing to the moon, don't look at the finger or you will miss all that heavenly glory.

Here is a comparison. The 968 wheels are "laughing" at the comment (take a closeup look!),

holy crap, they do look similar ! jk

if you really want to screw with people, remove the hood crest as flash has, and put a Ferrari prancing horse emblem in place of the rear 968 logo but i bet unlike Porsche dealers who'll sell you anything, you probably can't buy a Ferrari emblem without the car's registration in your hand even if you had a disposable thousand ( or two ) dollars they'd charge for it..

the "jk" after my remark stands for "just kidding " - could not pull up the right emoticon which might have underscored the jest nature of my comment .

as for the very fitting post flash just put up, I have always wondered if there was ever a huge dispute ( maybe even a lawsuit ? ) between the two makers regarding the similarity of their horses. The "Porsche" horse is taken from Stuttgart's coat of arms, the Ferrari horse origins are not so clear, many theories on that, but still the similarity of the symbols used by two of the world's most prominent top end sports car makers must have ruffled a lot of feathers in both camps .
