Hi All,

 

Unfortunately, my rear hatch decided to call it quits on the last sunny day we had.  The local dealer said it's not uncommon, but the 968 hatch is no longer available from Porsche.  If you have one to sell, or know of one for sale, any help would be appreciated.

I could be wrong, but I thought I read here that  ( although the spoiler / wing is obviously different ) the rear window and the frame are the same as the 944, and thus could be retrofitted to the 968 spoiler without much ado.. ?? 

Not that Porsche would have that either, but there should be a bunch of 944 ones available at salvage yards, on eBay, etc.. as long as they're in really good shape.

Surprisingly, both versions of the 944 hatch are available from Porsche. If I cant find a decent used 968 hatch, your suggestion is Plan B! Thanks!

Wow, the 944 still available from Porsche ?!   I was going to say that’s incredible but then realized they made a billion of those , just as they did 911s,  so there is probably enough demand for replacement parts to justify continued production and stocking those ..

Couple things. The 944 glass is the same. I posted it at Rear Hatch - Cosmetic Fix - Body, Paint, Trim & Glass - 968 Forums .  What's different is the frames between the 924, 944, 944S2 and 968. For some reason the 944  S2 frame and glass assembly is still available but I believe it has a high mount third brake light. Ours is in the spoiler. All being said, I would buy a good 944 hatch and remove the glass as I published in the post. You absolutely need to clean off the 30-year-old primer off the glass. The newest primer sticks much better to glass than the older stuff. Also use the newest glass adhesive. If you go the glass guy route and get a "we might break the glass removing it", Find another glass guy. That's a BS line for a careless repair.
