968 playing with the big boys on the track..

Highly likely the reason . IMO. And not enough exposure to 968s does not help .

Quote:At the track when a car is coming upon another a flag is presented to let the lead car know a faster one is approaching. When one 968 approaches another no flags are presented. When a faster 968 approaches any car the lead car never seems to get a flag. Now whether this is just utter disrespect to our beloved cars or ignorance and perhaps the belief by the flagger that this is a 944 which can’t be fast the result is the same. No respect. Rare car and little mention or notice at most venues.

I found this to be true at many PCA events whether in my 968 or my previous 944s. Unfortunate, but there is definitely bias there...

Interesting - I can't say I've experienced this at the track I go to.  But there are such a wide variety of cars, mostly high dollar newer models (the Camaro ZL1 is the current uncontested king of the hill - that 3800 lb physics-defying beast corners like a go kart, and accelerates like a dragster), and I've never sensed any bias.  If anything, the uniqueness of my car works in its favor.

My favorite time at track is when I pull up to the rear bumper of some fast car. I could always see them do a double take in rear mirror before giving pass signal. I do get tracked down sometimes and asked "What's in that thing" Now I'm pushing over 320 NA engine HP and weigh 2600Lbs.

272 to the rear wheels, naturally aspirated? NICE! Practically a dragster...

Woof !  That's insane for a NA 968 engine.   But wait, does that engine have ANY original 968 components left in it other than just the block ?!

What's amazing is peak power at 6500 rpm. When I tuned any dynoed I forgot to put big port intake on to match the head. The new intake makes peak at 6800. I may have hit the magic 300. Engine makes 235 to 259 ft/lbs torque from 4000 to 6500. Very flat power curve. I need to compress dyno sheet to post.

And the car weighs only 2600 lbs ?   I realize it's a race car so practically gutted, but do you also have a lot of carbon-fiber panels, hood, etc to attain something that light ?

You would be surprised how light the door becomes when gutted. Having sat in this car it is a purposed car. His has a couple of more differences than mine but not much left after all ripped out.

If I recall, my dyno also peaked around 6700 RPM, of course, my street car is way far behind your numbers (as you well know).

I would like to rectify the track which was not Assen, but our old famous Formula 1 track in the dunes of Zandvoort instead.

I drove there many times with my Kawasaki Ninja motorbike.
