it isn't likely it will go very far - unfortunately it will very likely go the route it went before, for the very same reasons - without active moderation, there are a few people who will just have to disagree with anything that we all know, just to be difficult - i'm sure the fighting and bickering will begin very soon - the very first comments on that site from one of those people were specifically intended to take pot shots - it won't be long before it turns into a mess

but thankfully we don't have to worry about any of that here

we wish ray the best, but this was probably not a good idea

When did 968.net went offline - think about 2005.

My question would be (as non US 968 enthustiast) : why another 968 forum?

What can be discussed there what has not been discussed here?

Raydog, its been up for over a week already.

I agree with SHA. While its good to have more 968 resources, Not much can be discussed there that hasnt already been discussed here.

That would depend on whether Ray decides to bring the old database on line as an archive of sorts. Lots of stuff in there- some good, some bad. [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif[/img]

I certainly have no problem with the old site coming back with a makeover.

lol - i don't think anybody is condemning anything - but this has happened twice in the last couple of years, both times with a crash and burn result - every time somebody tries to start yet another site, it only serves to further divide the community, which already suffers from enough problems

additionally, the ramp up to any meaningful database would be incredibly difficult (ask me how i know) - the old database from the previous site is useless - i have most of it, and it is incredibly difficult to get anything of value out of it - we finally have a group of dedicated people who get along, and a meaningful exchange of information and ideas - we also do not have any of the problems that every other site has - what is the point of another site?

again, while we all wish ray the best, i just don't get the point - he gave up on the site years ago because he didn't have the time to actively deal with it - what will make this time any different?

so, i'm not condemning it at all, but i'm very doubtful of any chance of real success

lol - i am already getting criticism on rl for being skeptical, and pointing out that somebody has already started a problem - figures - that is exactly the kind of thing that will doom a site

of course i joined the site - i did that the day it came back up - i'm watching and reading - i wish him luck - but, i'm naturally skeptical - what is wrong with that?

as i said though, fortunately we don't have that kind of drama here

Not bashing at all. Just got bothered by the immediate skepticism. Give the guy a chance before you doom and gloom the site. After all it does has some features that make it unique from the other sites.

we have not had to do any moderation in quite some time - we really rarely have - it just hasn't been necessary - we've closed some things down to prevent bickering, and had to quell a couple of things for legal reasons, but that's about it - we have a policy of non-interference, and as long as things are civil, anything goes

that can't be said of any other site - we'll see about how things at the "new" .net go

my hope is, if nothing else, that the new .net can function as a venue in which some long broken fences can be mended - i think it has been too easy for people to form into "this camp" or "that camp", and there has been no "switzerland", which has only helped the problem fester

obviously this will always be the library resource, but perhaps .net can be the neutral ground

I was a big supporter of .net back in the day. Even acted as a Moderator for a short time.

Without active moderation the site will become a sewer again. I hope that Ray is dedicated to keeping out the spam and prepared to deal with the nastiness that happens when 968 worlds collide. I can't imagine world peace is going to break out, and that has been demonstrated already.

I like it here and hope that we will stay on top based on the content, responsiveness and the high quality of our membership. This has always been the site for new products, events, and the cars of course, but the best part of 968Forums is the closeness of this group.

We'll keep it positive here, and hope that Ray can patrol his site and keep it fair.
