968 Go Kart and Pedal Car production
#1

As some of you may know, I also own a 57 Chevy Bel Air Onyx Black Sport Coupe and have accumulated quite a bit of memorabilia for the Chevy (more than my 968). I also have a 57 Chevy Bel Air Red Convertible Go Kart with a 5.5 hp engine and electric start. Also, I have a 57 Chevy Bel Black Convertible Pedal Car. Both are fiberglass bodies and mount to the frames with a few bolts. My 2 grandchildren have claimed these 2 Chevys as theirs - lol!

I have seen Cayman and Boxster Pedal Cars but never a 968 Pedal Car.

Does anyone here know a fiberglass fabricator, perhaps also a 968 fan, who might be willing to produce a 968 Cab Go Kart and/or a 968 Cab Pedal Car. If yes, I can provide the frame measurements and photos of both frames for their use in sizing.

I tried to attach photos of both the Go Kart and Pedal Car to this thread but website indicates file is too large. If someone can add photos for me, email me at dhassenbein@comcast.net and I will send photos to you for posting. Thanks.

Flash,

Did search on "101" section which referred to a lot of things on how to post but did not tell how to resize a photo to your required 800X600. Then I found Mark's thread on Photofiltre and downloaded it - so let's see if it works.

Sorry to go off topic, but what kind of tile do you have on your garage floor? It looks very nice!

Cloud9,

Armstrong tiles (12 X 12 peel and stick) purchased in 1998 from Loews right after we completed our dream home with 3 1/2 car garage. They were 81 cents a piece (box of 40) back then. I was able to pick up extra boxes when Armstrong stopped making these tiles before I retired the end of 1999. It took me 3 weekends to complete it.

My understanding is that Lowes and Home Depot still sell similar Armstrong black and white 12 inch tiles. I was still working when I installed these in my 3 car garage, center was easy, sides are a back. If you do a search, there were a number of threads previously about installing garage tiles.

Question still is, how do I get my hands on a 968 Cabriolet Go Kart and Pedal Car? As you can see in the photo above, my red 968 is sitting next to the "big" Chevy and desperately needs his partners too.

P.S. We had the 2008 968 Gathering Tech Session, conducted by Pete Fitzpatrick RS Barm, in my garage!

After having seen the video of the guy that hand-fabricated a completely accurate scale Ferrari in his basement, I'm amazed you're not inspired to fabricate the 968 models you need.

Why waste your time with go karts and pedal cars?

Send the plan to SMART CAR. They already did the 911.

Jim,

As you know I am not a wrench but I am also not a fiberglass fabricator! Hey a guy can dream on completing his garage can't he?

Ryan,

Great photo, could be a neat R/C model but sitting in it would be a real problem!

Seriously, if anybody knows a fabricator (obviously with a connection to Porsche AG would be ideal) or a fabricator outside of the USA, let me know.

Hey Guys,

Thanks for all the help, a fabricator has called me and will create both a 968 Pedal Car and 968 Go Kart (both Guards Red, of course) by Hershey time. Thanks to all for responding to my post.
