968 foglight
#1

968 foglights get broken on a regular basis here in Oregon due to gravel and it is getting harder to find replacements (except OEM at $300 each). Anyone had any luck finding replacements or is there any aftermarket light that looks good?

If you have no-deductible glass coverage with your auto insurance, you might find, as I did, that it includes headlights and foglights.

You also want to put Stongard or another type of clear plastic protector on the lights. After I lost one fog/driving light, I replaced both (they were terribly road-rashed) and covered them with the plastic protector. I just replaced the plastic with new plastic, and the lights look like they are brand new.

I got a chip in my foglight and looked everywhere for just the lens (not available), Also, new price was too much I thought. So I bought a used one from a wrecking year. But it had a broken mounting tab. I took it anyway and repair the tab as that looked easier than exchanging the new glass for the chipped. I now have Stonegard plastic on all my 968 lights. I need to do my 928s next but looking for cheaper outlet that what I paid (about $50 for the 968 kit) but it went on easily and nice. You really don't notice them.

Looks like the Stonegard is the way to go. I have a replacement on order from a wrecking yard for $145, which is not too bad. The second light has a small BB size hole which I can fix with glass repair. Thanks for the info. Jerry

I just applied the protective kit from Performance. It is a little thinner material than the Stongard that I had on previously, but applied well and came with a plastic tool that the Stongard kit did not have - it made installation easier and more reliable. The kit came with precut pieces for the headlights, fog/driving lights, and turn signals. However, since I have the Euro turn signals, I was unable to use those pieces. I replaced the Stongard because, over the three or so years it was on the lights, there was significant yellowing and general discoloration.

I've heard frequent complaints from 928 owners about headlights with aftermarket high intensity bulbs cracking with StoneGard like covering, due to the increased heat. Is this a problem with the 968?
