I have received a dozen request for information regarding sponsoring this forum. Since we have not established sponsors yet I will allow promotional posts. Once I get the sponsors on board it is only fair to the sponsors to delete promotional posts by members that are not sponsors.

That raises some interesting questions.



Is this a forum or a commercial enterprise?



I'm not against commercial enterprise and I appreciate the need for dollars to run the form but what exactly are you saying?



Limiting advertisement to sponsors only seems appropriate. Preventing forum members from communicating with one another about our cars, products we have used or parts and pieces we have for sale is not appropriate in my opinion.



Where do you intend to draw the line?



It's not my site, I'm only a forum member/user, and you can do as you wish. I'm not trying to dictate anything. I just want to know.



To the extent that this forum is a commercial enterprise instead of a site run by and for its users, we may see less usage and more people sticking to 968.net.

The forum costs money to operate not including my time. There is not a huge market for 968 related advertisers especially when you are talking no more then 1000 potential members at most. So there is not a fortune to be made here. But eventually I would rather not pay for the hosting and bandwidth out of my own pocket. (I will not ask members to cover these costs even though I have received quite a few members inquiring) Also there are licence fees and development costs that I have incurred. 968.net is a great site but it is running on an obsolete platform, upgrades cost time and money. On the other hand I do see a great opportunity with the Cayman Forums site that is a whole other story.



To answer your question though. If Dave announces a new product and points to his site that is not promotional. If dave displays his banner as a signiture that is promotional. If Dave announces a group buy that is promotional. If Duckman says I just bought this cool grill from dave go check it out on his site, that's not promotional. It is a very flexible line and I think it is very fair.



My fear is 968.net will eventually disappear. If the site is running old software there is a good chance the server is just as old. So a catastrophic failure is not out of the question.
