968 Differential Leak
#1

Has anyone experienced a differential / transaxle leak? My car has had a slow leak which would leave a small spot on the garage floor when parked. I decided to add some 75W-90 GL-5 fluid to make sure I was not running low. Now the problem is worse, like a steady drip after driving. There must be a seal or something inside that has deteriorated? Any ideas.. thanks BILL

probably the output shaft seals on the sides of the transaxle.

most seem to be wet in that area.

Talked with local porsche mechanic and he said since it was leaking near the front of the differential, most likely an input shaft seal. Sounded like he had seen this before. Guess nobody else has experienced this problem.

Every 968 I've owned has had a leaky tranny input seal, but they have been minor. If you take the rubber plug off the bellhousing on the front of the tranny you will probably see a small line of oil running down the front of the tranny from the seal.
