968 diagnostics ...
#1

Here's a link to a 968 diagnostic tool (944/968) that has all the capabilities of the Bosch Hammer. The 928 tool version of this package is well known in the 928 community.

The 968 diag tool seems to be on special offer now.

I have used the 928 pc version that the 928 Owner's Club lends out to members for 928 events. Works great & everyone was impressed with it's capabilities! Two Thumbs Up Theo!!

MGW - first of all, WELCOME! Thanks for joining this community.

The community ownership of a diagnostic tool is something that's been talked about (briefly and quite some time ago), but you seem to have some relevant experience/knowledge. Could you provide more information? How was the purchase funded, how is the tool controlled, who accepts damage risk, etc.?

Thanks.

Thanks for the Welcome. I've been eyeing 968 cabs for at least 8 years now & plan to own one at some point. Probably in a few more years max, once both our kids are thru college. In the meantime, I've been in the 928 realm, currently owning two & already having sold another one.

Regarding the joint ownership of the diagnostic tool. This was done by the 928 Owners Club for its members. It was paid for by annual dues, which are just under $30 per year. www.928OC.org The 928OC was started by 928 owners and is run by 928 owners. The sole purpose is helping to promote & support the ownership of 928s and their owners.

As quoted from the 928OC web site, "The 928 Owners Club Board has puchased the 928 Diagnostic Tool as developed by Theo Jenniskens. This tool will be made available to 928 OC sponsored events for use in tech session." The 928OC just recently purchased the tool.

I am a 928OC rep for the state of Florida. We have a couple Florida 928 events each year, ours being centered around two PCA races. One of these events we call the Sebring Shark Shiver at the 48 Hours of Sebring PCA races. We were the 1st 928ers to have the opportunity to use the diagnostic tool at a tech session during our event in Feb. One of the largest annual 928 gatherings each year in North Carolina in early June, Sharks in the Mountains, should probably also have the tool available there for a tech session.

Perhaps if there is a 968 owners club or group, a similar situation could occur. I keep thinking since one of my sharks is a '91S4 that the diagnostic tool would work on, I might consider purchasing one for myself. It seems to work rather well for what its designed to do.

Thanks. So, if I understand correctly, the unit stays in the possession of the club at all times, and is used at gatherings - but it doesn't get sent out to members that might want to use it at non-gathering times. Is that right? If so, it certainly reduces the risk of damage or loss.

Right, it would be sent to a representative of the club, such as me being the Fla rep., for use at a 928OC sponsored function. But an individual member could not request its use. At our functions there are both members and non members present, all who are 928 owners. This allows for more exposure to those who might be potential future members of the 928OC.

Depending upon your location, you might be close enough to an upcoming 928OC sponsored event that I'm sure if you attended, they'd have no problems in hooking it up to your 968 too. Of course, once the 928ers had their turn.
