Which costs more, a 968 or a cat ?
#1

Suddenly the cost of repairs for a 968 do not seem so bad .. our cat suffered what was ultimately diagnosed to be an asthma attack, had to take him to the pet hospital and after some intervention treatment and a series of X-rays, blood tests, culture tests, followed by i.v. feeding / fluid admin, and five days of boarding with periodic medical supervision and additional care ( because of course this incident had to happen the very day before we all left for a brief vacation in London - great timing, eh ?! ) the cost added to a hefty sum of $ 2,650 . Did they fix the Obamacare website yet, I need to sign up a feline-american for health insurance. So I suppose I should not balk at 968 parts prices or the labor cost to fix something, by comparison it now seems like petty cash. Sheesh.

I've learned not to make cat comments around cat people! Hope your cat is feeling better.

My sister in law spent over $10,000 on her cat surgeries. She yelled at me when I said no cat is worth that much.

Never been a cat person, always a dog kinda guy, but this cat adopted us when he was about one year old ( he is approx 2 1/2 now ) and being extremely social as he is, it makes it so tough not to get attached to him. If he was old, I'd think twice about spending 10,000 for any treatment, but my wife is so completely fond of him, that anything less than the best for one pussy ( meaning the cat of course ) in this family may lead to missing out on the other...( ahem ) ..

Reminds me of some comedian's line about the family bunny rabbit : " the bunny was sick and my wife thinks we're going to spend $ 500 at the vet .. she sees a cute fuzzy cuddling pet, I on the other hand, think what we have here is four potential key chains .."

ouch - been there done that, but only to see the animal then up and die anyway. i have often thought about vet insurance, but never bitten the bullet.

maybe we can get the cat in on obamacare, as an immigrant worker (pest control). of course, we would probably have to register it as a republican (being a pussy and all) - roflmao

LOL.

I looked briefly into pets insurance and I realize some policies are more comprehensive than others, but the exclusions in most of these policies ( such as illness as a result of any hereditary / congenital / chronic conditions, just for one example , or any " signs of a certain suspected condition for which the pet was seen by a vet , among a myriad of other excuses the insurance co can latch onto ) makes the insurance almost nonsense, unless your pet does get bitten by a rattlesnake or gets hot by a car..and survives. No routine care or regular diagnostics or prescriptions are covered either. But the again, for an average of what I was able to determine is about $ 25 / mo, on a policy with a $ 500 deductible and $ 10,000 limit even if one major expense for something outside of those exclusions is covered, it easily pays off. Like a radar detector, you only need to avoid one single ticket and the investment paid for itself.

I wasn't trying to minimize your affection of your cat, I apologize if it came through that way and I certainly hope your cat will recover. I would probably spend what it takes for my dog if he became ill or injured. In fact I rescued him from Africa and spent a small for tube bringing him onto the US. I also tried to rescue a dog from Iraq a few years ago until I had to put him down for rabies. We get so attached to pets we anthropomorphize them into family members. Some people probably do that with their 968s!

JTP hence my comment. I offended my cousin after she spent years and thousands upon thousands of dollars on her cat. Most republicans have jobs and insurance and are not illegal unionized democrats!

No worries whatsoever, I did not think the comments came across that way at all...but you bring up a good point about the 968 ; hope it never comes to someone saying : it's either the cat or the 968 ! Sophie's choice time, LOL..

As far as pet insurance goes - the best advice I've heard is that you're better off just putting the $25 per month it would cost you in a savings account and drawing from it as needed - no deducables no limitations - now if you could get it qualified as a pre-tax health savings account even better...

This is definitely a first world issue. A good friend of mine is from Jamaica, and a conversation with him about Americans and their pets is enlightening. He walked into my house incredulous one day, "Bumboclot! Ryke Man, you will neva believe wha' I saw today, a fookin dog in a cah seat! In Jamaica, I do nah have shoes, and you crazy Americans put your dogs in a cah seat? In Jamaica, dogs live undo di house, an they feed themselves." I asked him about his pet cats, and he just glared at me.

Lol, I think cats and dogs in Jamaica breathe in so much of that second-hand "smoke" , it takes care of all of their problems and thus, need no attention. :-) Sorry, do not mean to make light of the real conditions and the point your friend made, but just could not resist a smart-ass remark. But yeah, much of the pet owners ( wait till I get back to this ) in this country go so far overboard with how they treat their pets it often reaches absurd levels. And speaking of absurd, a number of years back the San Francisco "board of stupidvisors" introduced and passed a city measure making it it a violation of sorts to refer one as a pet " owner " , by virtue of the term being demeaning and derogatory to....pets !! So the term was replaced in all the related rules and regs and correspondence issued by the city on the subject with the term " pet custodian " . Your tax dollars at work in San Fran folks ! They must have hired consultants from Berkeley for help with that decision.

I ran over a very large cat like creature while traveling over the mountain passes to Bend Oregon from POrtland, and had to buy a new tire. Does that count?

I don't know why we're talking about cats, but while we're at it just had cat #1 some dental work yesterday. $500. Cat #2 is due next week for same. Damn squirrels in the back yard cost zero and are just as fun to watch. Moral of story? Happy wife means happy life.

I swear every time I read this topic I wonder if a new catalytic converter costs more than a whole 968...I have 2 fish tanks.

Ryker your friend is very intuitive. Americans treat their pets better than their children. I see this every day and still cease to be amazed. DS don't you think all of that second hand smoke would give them the munchies? Anyone remember the song, "Mary Provost",by Nick Lowe? Sorry couldn't resist. Someone just asked me if they could bring their dog to visit their husband who is a patient. I said sure but that the dog would not be allowed in the buildings. Today it was -5 and -25 with the wind chill. She looked to argue the point until she looked at my face. Want me to feed him too? Guess who is not getting visited? Woof woof, not the dog! Anyone for Chinese? Lol
