2nd time around - drive shaft bolts sheared
#1

On the track monday the left hand driveshaft bolts sheared, the outer ones. 2nd time around. Anyone with an idea of what might be going on and how to fix it?

I have never heard of this on any of the 944 series of cars.

Are you using "Porsche" bolts?

I know of a few people that have had this happen, it seems if you torque them up to much they stretch and then shear off with the forces associated with hard driving, very soft bolts from what i have heard, regards pazzer.

Had a friend with a 1989 944S2 that seem to have a loose axle bolt that kept coming loose at a PCA DE. After the 3rd time of tightening it (stub shaft) that the bolts tighten into sheared and it looked like it had a few broken driveshaft bolts on the backside. On my 968 I’ve had these bolts loosen up after a race event. Actually thought about safety wiring them. Never had one shear…yet!

Just about everything in a aircraft is safety wired. Probably do-able for a full time track / race car.

Will check safety wire next time I change the drive shafts. This time they where locked with Locktite. Swedish endurance teams change drive shafts after 50 hours of track driving. What are your views here?
